Does Gameworks kill performance? Lets find out...as a community

You know the thread was on topic until you started posting, right? While I would prefer if your idea were possible, it's not - and this is the best we have until then.

Always the same useless rubbish. "Nvidia slept with my wife", "Nvida kills puppies for fun", "GamesWorks gave me cancer". As soon as someone injects some rationality into the mindless bickering people come out and complain?

I would love a thread that compared GamesWorks to alternatives. This thread isn't it.
I don't care if people want to compare the performance hit of different effects, but why limit yourself to GamesWorks unless you have an agenda? and if you don't have an agenda then accept that the suggestion to test all effects is a valid constructive criticism.

People trying to paint the typical "Nvidia is evil" picture is what makes these threads toxic, along with all those that try to support such practices. There is plenty of scope for a constructive and informative thread if people wanted to be objective.

Please stop with playing the victim dude, I never said anything against your comments and I do not have the patience for this he said she said childish BS.

Fact is every thread that starts up in this forum sooner or later starts getting toxic.

Not you fool! :P

Crazy fool?

But seriously, what % does TressFX have on performance compared to no TressFX? It is just one effect but interested to know and I am stuck at work till 1am and will see then. I really do like TressFX but sadly only used once really.

**** it.

What is it comparing against? The vanilla game. Disable interactive smoke in Batman does it disable smoke completely? NO. So is it comparing against the alternative of the vanilla games smoke? YES. In FC4, disable hairworks, does everything with fur loose all of its fur? NO. So it would be comparing against the standard game engines hair/fur rendering.

Some of the vermin in this place will never give up until something suits their own agenda rather then seeing something for what it is rather then what they want. I see lots of threads I don't agree with, what do I do? Ignore them, those that want that discussion can have it.

This wasn't a dig at Nvidia, AMD or anyone. Actually it was the opposite, I read constantly how gameworks is damaging games, with little substance, this thread was intended to show substance be it positive or negative.

I know the thread isn't perfect, see post 9, I asked that early in the thread if anyone has suggestions to improve the format of the thread then to speak up.

As it is now this thread can drift off into obscurity, I'm done putting any form of effort into this sub, the same people are hell bent on turning every thread they have a difference of opinion in into a personal crusade while the moderating team sit idle doing absolutely sod all to clean this place up.

Thank you to those who did contribute and to those who did see the meaningful side of this thread, you deserve a better forum.

I recall quite a hit when Tomb Raider released with it, but I think I might have still been on a 6950 (unlocked to 6970) back then and I think they did some patching and improved on it afterwards.. If my net wasn't so **** here I'd re-download it and test D:

I'm sorry, I saw your post 9 and gave my constructive feedback, people with an agenda then turned the thread into the usual back-and-forth that I failed to restrain myself form entering.

I would love a good analysis of Gamesworks but this isn't it IMO.

I've said my piece and so wont keep beating the same point.

GamesWorks features are extremely well optimized and if a developer doesn't create the correct configuration profiles for different hardware then it is not Nvidia's fault.

How do we know it's well optimised if its black box code? More like its built to optimise Nvidia's profit margin!

My own view, and I say this as a long time Nvidia customer, Gameworks is a strategy to artificially bump the performance profile of AAA titles, and make us lot think we need new cards every year. As a rule, if I see gameworks on an upcoming title, I expect a broken game at launch. Black box code is bad news in game development.

Yeah but this is not true with fallout 4, 780 @ 1920x1200 and ultra everything except shadow reflection and God rays on medium runs great.

For me it's a win for Bethesda and Nvidia and even Amd by looks of it.

I think I own every GW title as I buy most PC games and Batman is the only game that was broken even though I played it through just fine and the problems with that game run a lot deeper than GW

If you drag the slider from side to side really fast, it looks like a 50's movie :p

I actually wasted 10 minutes of my life doing that. :D

Is there a way for us normal folk to make these slider type things and host them somewhere? They do make close inspections of screenshot comparisons much easier, and i am sure they will make their way in to GDs more humorous posts when people get bored at work.

I went back for another go if it helps :D

But no idea about that slider but cool if someone finds away to do it. Interested to know if there is an idiot proof one for me.
