when i was younger i was making tea for me and my granda, i was about to pour the tea into the cup when i got told off and he said that you should put the milk in first and then the tea? i was thinking wtf, that doesnt make a differece.

according to him, it does as there is a different order of chemical reaction... yea right.

has anyone else been told this or know if this it ture or if it makes a better cup of tea.

to this day i make tea and coffee and add the milk last

I have always thought with coffee is would as it cools the hot water down before it hits the coffee granuals putting in the milk first that is...

Stelly

If you're making proper tea i.e. in a teapot not with a teabag then yes, you should put the milk in first. It really does make it taste better.

Coffe > Water > Milk > Sugar.
Milk before water, helps prevent scalding the coffee granules, tastes better that way. Or you could wait a bit after boiling the water.

But then you would have cold coffee, and that sucks even more.

Coffee granules ?

Makes no difference to the taste personally if you are using instant.

People in Britain always used to put milk in first because the standard of our pottery was poor; putting boiling water straight in without the milk to instantly cool it somewhat, caused the cups to crack.

Surely it's better to put sugar in BEFORE milk?? this way the water is hotter and the sugar will dissolve quicker/better....

With tea, (according to the back of the Punjana box i have) you must use freshly drawn water (re-boiled water is deoxygenated apparently) and must use water ON THE BOIL not off as the tea will infuse better this way....

Make of that what you will :p

I will be able to tell you the difference if you blindfolded me and gave me the two different options.

As has been said before if your using a teapot you should add the milk to the cup first else you'll scold the milk.

If you're using a teabag in the mug the milk will cool the boiling water and stop the tea from brewing properly, so you either get a slightly poorer brew or slightly scolded milk. You have to make a compromise in that case.

flippin 'eck, loads more posts than i thought, but i spose i did get caught up in the tower defense game :D

i didnt think it made a differece but some people think it does,

i always make mine:

coffee > sugar > water > milk > stir
tea bag > sugar > water > milk > stir

tbh i think i do it that way because i find it hard to judge how much milk is in the cup, i hate milky tea/coffe
