Does something need to be done about dogs?

Tonight's stupid encounter.

Some guy at our local Asda was stood outside with a small pup - looked months old, so I gave it some snuggles and chatted with the owner, at this point I'm not sure what it is as it's only a small pup, but suspected it was a Bully breed. "She's an XLbully mate" I make small talk, and continue to snuggle the pup whilst the conversation continues. The owner complains about the upcoming ban, I spoke about how he'd almost certainly be able to keep the dog - provided it's muzzled and stuff... general small talk.

He then talks about how he also has a Presa Canario / XLBully cross, which at 160lb has gotten too big and he's trying to give it away, it's too aggressive and can't be controlled, etc, etc.

I'm left him to it after a minute or two, but walked off wondering who in the right ******* mind, crosses a dog of that size and strength (Presa) with an XLbully? I mean how much power and aggression do you need? Really?

I'm experienced with large breeds (Mastiffs) and it just blows my mind, when people are creating dogs like this, you don't need to pull genes from Pitbulls, into dogs like this - which are already strong, especially Presas as they come from an old lineage of fighting dogs.

Just complete berks, there's no hope for some people.

So which is it, "Blame the [chav] owner, not the dog" or "Ban German Shepherds"

:p

Though in all seriousness, that's the 11th attack. The dog is obviously not coping in that environment and is lucky it's privileged status has protected it from being put down.

People working long hours should not have dogs :p

^Deffo Chav Scum in this case :D

Although ironically If I heard there was a Presidents out of control dog attacking guards, I'd have immediately thought 'Trump'...

Bidens probably forgetting to feed them, so when hungry have to source their own food..

Anecdotally all the GSDs around me have twitchy owners that have them on very tight leads and shouting stern instructions when any other dogs walks past them.. Not sure if they attract a lot of odd owners, but our Spaniel breeder had long haired GSDs, those looked amazing.. imposing, but amazing..

every single dog owner should be liable for there dog ..i have 2 french mastiffs both are rescues they don't like small dogs .. so we take them to a private field 3 times a week so they can run about ..some times my daughters dogs come as well again mastiffs ..
and they happily play together .. there needs to be a national register ..no back street kennels no making a quick quid for all dogs .. i'd be happy to have mine on it .. there good take commands well .. but lacking in recall hence the field and if we do walk them ..halti's and vests .. for control

I didn't know what a Presa Canario was so I googled it and

You don't cross a Presa Canario with an XLBully unless you intend to take down Bears with that thing. Who in their right mind have something like that as a pet? It's insane!

A bit more detail on the most recent killing by a dog.

Given the charge at arrest, and subsequent upgrade to a murder charge, this could be "dog as weapon", rather than an out of control dog.
If people are using them to kill, then they should be treated no differently to handguns, banned completely
