Does something need to be done about dogs?

Well, interestingly I had a dog take a shot at me yesterday.

Out for a run and saw a bloke with 3 dogs coming towards me. 2 medium sized things that looked like a German shepherd/husky cross and a jack Russell. Jack Russell was yapping its little head off from about 100m away. He moved to one side of the path and I went to the other. Neither could step off as there are hedges either side.
As I passed the JR lunged and he failed to hold its lead. It managed to get hold of the back of one of my shoes before my stride kind of kicked it off. I stopped, turned round and he muttered an apology, the thing then came for another go so I went to line up a kick before he manged to pull it back. The other 2 dogs just sat there doing nothing.
He apologised again, said 'he's a bit aggressive since we got the other dogs' and walked away.

I'm lost with what @ttaskmaster is saying if I'm honest.

One moment he's saying that the breed type, or differences between breeds have little influence on behaviour, he then says that breeding Staffies a specific way (by creating hybrids) removed the aggression from them, which to me is a direct contradiction, because you're creating a hybrid breed that behaves differently..
That's because he doesn't have a clue what he's saying.

So, bickering aside...

These dogs are attacking people and, often maiming people for life on a regular basis in public.
These aren't fueds between drug dealers.. Innocent people and even more often children and 'normal' dogs are the victims.

We have dumb chavs wandering around with weapons more lethal and unpredictable than fully automatic assault rifles, perfectly 'legally'.

That's the situation, so what it the solution?

It's almost like reading the latest mass shooting in America thread. There's a new one every month.

The number should be close to zero but it's now happening so often it hardly makes the news.

I mean that's literally why I created the thread!

Well no. I have a Yorkie /shi-tzu cross.
Calm as you like and never yaps.
The odd occasion he's left home alone, he just sleeps and chills on the sofa.
I know because I have a pet IP camera.

I on the other hand, am 6'3 and 120 kilos. And I'd have no problem wringing your neck, @bigmike20vt if you so much as look sideways at my dog.

That's the difference.

Hard man with his woman's dog :cry::cry:

On the news tonight the Kennel Club said that if you take all the dog attacks over the last 12 months you've got more chance of being bit by a Labrador.
I'm pretty sure that's always been the case.

That is the case which is something I pointed out much earlier in the thread. One of the main points though is outcome. One breed stands head and shoulders above in serious injuries but it doesn't mean any other attacks should be ignored.

Woof!

It clearly wasn't on the owners property at the time of the incident and they can get a warrant so no; they don't need the owners permission and they should have seized it sooner - that's a mistake that they have admitted to in the statement in the article you clearly didn't read!

Honestly can't believe you're still trying to converse with him.
