Does something need to be done about dogs?

I'd probably put the breed/type/size aside and wonder exactly how a 7 month old, was presumably(?) left alone with a dog...

Difficult to comment without knowing more information, but from the sounds of it - somebody seriously messed up..

Doesn't necessarily have to have been left alone. Report said the baby was bitten on the head. Just takes one moment for a dog to snap.

Dogs seized over man's death were XL bullies

Fits my box perfectly.

Edit: For some bizarre reason the link was something I'd linked months and months ago. Where the hell my browser or the forums got that from I have no idea. Anyway I've linked the correct article now. Shows that Dis didn't read the link though...
Or knew what article you were referring to as I'd just read it?

Maybe we should look at the relative danger.

There are 13.5 million dogs in the UK, and in 2022 10 people were fatally attacked.

There are 8 million 10-19 year olds in the UK and in 2022 30+ under 16's committed murder.

Ergo we would be 'safer' tying teenagers hands behind their backs when out and about, than muzzling dogs.

Dogs aren't needed. Teenagers, unfortunately, are.

Let's ban everything that isn't needed because an infinitesimally small number of people were unintentionally harmed or killed.

That sounds like an awesome society to live in, can't wait for it.

Its not infinitesimal though, is it? It's a measurable number and each one of those people killed was a life. Someone's family. Someone's friend.
I've also posted the number of people injured and hospitalised by dogs several times in this thread. It's not small at all.

Just can't agree with this.
I get it. But the thought of someone saying my boy is dangerous and having to put him down would ruin me.

Muzzle all the time (at home etc) would be acceptable. But I understand it's not policable

So knowing it's not policable, are you willing to accept tens of thousands of injuries and dozens of deaths per year because of it?
