Does the PS3 upscale SD DVD's ?

yes, yes and to answer your 3rd question ("is it worth it?"), only if your tv's scaler isnt up to scratch. i dont see much of a difference between scaling with the ps3 and letting my tv do the scaling (sony kdl 40w2000) :)

oh god im dying lol

And there I thought they were being modest.

well to be honest......no wait, your being sarcastic arent you?:p

Jaap74, lol, its a prefect decent scaler. i do believe it works much better with displays that arent 1080p. ie every 720p display ive seen has been abolutely awful with sd material. i think in that instance the ps3 would do a good job of improving it. if you have a 1080p set, they are generally pretty good and like i said, i see no real differences between my ps3 and my tv doing the scaling. except maybe that the fan on the ps3 kicks up sometimes because of the extra processing involved:)

But only through the HDMI connection, I believe!

correcto. give that man a cookie

With the power of the Cell, the Playstation 3 Entertainment System can upscale DvDs to true High Definition, offering intense visuals that could fool the viewer into thinking they are in a pseudo-alternate reality. Utilising the very essence of the Earth's core, the Cell can transform the typical cinema experience into something like no other, while tending to the sick and wounded, and giving oral pleasure to all in the vicinity. All this, only possible with the Cell Broadband Engine.

....... It's just a freaking dvd.

(Let me slap the Cell people here, 360 has a better upscaler by far)

i was wondering how long this thread would go before the 360 was mentioned

doesnt bother me in the slightest. it does amusing me that people just *cant* not mention the other console in a thread. even when the subject matter has nothing to to with the other console. just a bit futile really.

anyway yeah, doesnt bother me. but watch this thread decent in to an argument. again.

yawn, here we go again. Ok lads, flies down - 360 people on one side PS3 people on the other... who's got the tape measure?
