Does this depress anyone else?

You could probably mod a rust-ridden Nova to beat an M3 for not many pennies.

At the end of the day though, the M3 driver is driving... an M3.

This depresses me because the M3 is a car that I aspire to, and I always thought that through the gears it is has amazing power and acceleration. I hope the M3 driver was either dumbing it down, or he cant drive properly!

doesnt depress me in the slightest.

small car + big power = quicker than an M3.

M3 only has about 330 bhp in a car that weighs 1.5 tonnes. The Saxo has 0.9 tonnes so is bound to be quicker with less power. Its basic maths.

as for the twisties comments, the saxos are perfectly competant hot hatches. Always did well in evo "Car Of The Year" because the VTS/VTR models came with good suspension as standard. add big power and something like an M3 or scooby is easily beatable. twisities or straight line.

As said previously, a Nova and around £500 would probably beat an M3 in a straight line, it means nothing.

A £20k M3 or a £4k saxo with £16k worth of modifications...

That saxo wont of cost 16k to modify

agreed

your talking like 8 grands worth of saxo vs 20 grands worth of m3 for the same performance. yes were comparing modifed vs standard. but who cares ? its the price that matters.

but you dont buy an M3 for outright power. you buy an M3 for the luxury and badge prestige that goes with it

which sounds better, i own an M3, or a saxo for which ive spent 8 grand on thats worth maybe 3 cos you dont get the value of your mods back

Hell no, makes me feel good because i know i can get serious performance for minimal price... ok its not an m3 but still, you quible because 'its a saxo'.

I know that, but even if it did cost 16k, i wouldnt be interested... the best mod i have ever seen is the liquorice dispencer the "Murf Mobile" was fitted with in the movie Waynes World.

I preferred the soda gun.

The video made me think that an M3 cant be that fast if a 200 bhp saxo can beat it.

But, I guess after than 1/4 mile the M3 would probably blaze the saxo.

Which is more fun though :D

M3's are pretty fast, 200bhp is a fair amount of power even in larger cars so in something like a saxo its really going to shift.

Price doesnt mater in the theory i just displayed imo :o

The Price limit/income of the Saxo owner is enough to mod his saxo.
The Price limit/income of the BMW owner should be enough to mod the BMW the same amount the saxo has had been modded even though it will cost more

Not if Mr M3 spends every penny to run a car just to look cool, like a lot of young males tend to

Personally, and this may come as a shock to some, but I would keep the Saxo for the pure fun element and drive the m3 as a day to day car.

given money, I could engineer a Robin Reliant that would embarras that saxo, but at the end of the day, who cares?

Que the OMFG he obviously doesnt know about cars threads...

track day car would be fun :D

Awesome - another beemer-boy getting stuffed. :D

As with half the comments on here, the Saxo would probably do the M3 over on the track, too, as when it comes to corners, all the power in the world is no remedy for weight...

Which is why a Mini Cooper S will always be faster cross-country on a windy road than a Diablo, Fezza, Murcielago, etc. It's part of the reason why Scoobs/Evos are so fast.

Truth be told, given the choice between the two I'd have the BMW (which I'd sell and buy and RS4) but it's personal preference: I don't not like Beemers enough to buy a French car instead, no matter how fast it is.

Lol at all the "Yeah but it's a Paxo" comments :D

So what? The owner could have spent thousands on a hideous bodykit, 22" chrome spinners, and a ridiculous sound system, yet he didn't. He instead spent the money mainly on improving the performance and handling, along with a few subtle aesthetic mods. Fantastic. In my opinion, that's exactly how modding should be carried out :)

I honestly don't understand the mentality of a lot of you sometimes. You deride people for spending a fortune on stick on tat for a 1.1, yet when someone comes along having invested mainly in performance, you poor contempt on them as well

160bhp fwd mini faster than a murcielago around a windy road with awd and a dedicated ecu to keep it and its 500+bhp stuck to the road, I think not!! it would be a handful yes, but slower than a mini, you have to be joking!
I kind of see where you coming from but your way off.

I know what light front wheel drive cars are like with to much power, without an lsd or some of the stickiest tyres that saxo would be the most annoying car to drive around the track!! if it could even lap fast than the m3 which it might well do, I know I would be having more fun driving the m3.

might take my 1.25 zetec to pumaspeed now for a puma 1.7 racing engine conversion and turbo.

That's why I like sleepers, they're just a bit of a laugh when they unexpectedly hair it away from a "better" car.
