Have you noticed that the forums are populated by certain 'categories'* of people?** and if so, what types do you think these are and why do you think they are attracted here? :)

*Of beliefs, personalities, interests (outside overclocking), social class, etc.

**A question, not a statement of fact.

Nope, I think there is a wide mix of people here. Just look in any SC or GD thread and you can see clashes of opinions and beliefs. The only thing we all have in common is some sort of interest in computing.

OcUK is my little escape.

I work in an often high pressure environment and it is nice to do something completely different when I'm not there.

When threads do not descend into O Rly, Lulz and pancake bunny, there is some good debate to be had here.

Yea as above states complete mix of people. I do think most have some ability to use a computer to a good degree and keep up with the odd internet trend but thats about it!

The place attracts a very wide mix of people. Its attraction is the range of intelligent and purely silly discussion, sometimes you don’t know what to expect next and that makes it special. I don’t want to be bored. I want some escapism mixed with reality, that’s why I’m here.

It attracts a certain demographic - Young, middle class, male. So I guess it will create a bit of a bubble where people don't realise the 'majority view' of OCUK is not necessarily that of the entire country.

I agree, as a working class guy I often read a lot of opinions on these forums of people who dont realise how hard hit by the recession the working class are in this country.

Mine told me to take small doses every hour, seven days a week. He has an asylum place ready if I stop taking the medicine. :D

Mine has me on some strong stuff 3 times a day but I'm so Mental I forget to take it & go Fruit loop. :D
They did drag my younger Bro off to the Nut house a few years back so I do have to be a bit careful. :p:p:p

I would say it's heavily male orientated, its mainly men who are interested in building computers after all. The OcUK avatars are all male too :)

I don't think it is too easy to generalise about the forums, while there will probably be a preponderance of young middle class white males due to the nature of the forums there is actually a huge variety in the age range, ethnicity and social class of posters. Even if that were not the case there is a good variety of spread across the political, economic and moral spectrums.

As for why people are attracted here, it's a big enough forum that there is usually something going on but small enough that you can still get to know a significant number of the posters. That's certainly one of the reasons I post at least alongside the variety of different opinions that I am exposed to by reading here.
