Does this forum attract certain types of person?

It does seem of attract a wide range of people. Any questions that I seem to have on any subject there's always someone to answer it :)

I would agree that I think that it attracts a more middle class people, as in generally more intelligent and successful people than the average joe. Everyone who posted in the 'How much disposable income do you have' thread had soooo much more than I would expect people to have.

"certain category of people" are not the majority here, just the most vocal.
 
I think the place is worryingly conservative and a little racist - there doesn't seem to be too many flower children around.... Lots of guys that are bitter about paying taxes so feel they should persecute others.....

Not to mention the fact that not many women could be said to be 'overclockers'...

Those are attributes that apply to some but there are still a fair number of unreconstructed liberals on the forums.

There's a reasonable number, not a huge amount perhaps but a number of the posters here that I know to be female don't tend to do anything to bring attention to themselves. I can't speak for them but I'd suspect it is simpler not to have the extra attention and "OMG, gurls" posts that follow whether jokingly or not.

But really, OcUK is about 1% spammers, 15% (insert ATI or nvidia) fanboys, 20% (insert console of choice) fanboys, 5% talented photographers, 5% untalented photographers, 10% trolls in the motors forum, 10% [TW]Fox, 5% folders, 2% linux experts, and the rest is filled with people who argue for the sake of it (mainly in motors), those who flash their e-peen about every now and then with expensive purchases and the rest is <18 year old hardware n00bs.

I ran out of steam towards the end, but you get the idea.
 
Very male bias, generally right wing, with some fascism/racism (much more than if you took a cross-section of British society). Not really sure why, though my gut feel is

High spec computers = fairly young fairly rich males = can't remember reality of right-wing parties in power = more extreme political views at that stage of life = guys leaning heavily to the right.

Only other bad thing = a lot of cynics. If someone writes 'OMG I've won a Audi in a competition' 40% of the responses would be 'I simply don't believe you'. If someone posted a video of them skateboard jumping over 5 of their friends, 60% of people would just respond 'FAKE'. :/



But lots of nice guys on here as well .. in fact the majority of folk really ..

How very perceptive. I hope the fanboys don’t invade GD, the graphics mob just hurl insults at each other. I’d like to see them team up with the handjob boys for a slanging contest. :D

It's at its speculative worst atm. Things will calm down once fermi flops....:p Just kidding.
 
I totally forgot about the Apple guys. I make a concerted effort to avoid that forum subsection for fear of turning into everything I despise. They do make pretty machines though... Arrhhh, it's happening already! Let's say 2% apple fanboys, though everything kind of overlaps, like apple fanboys with untalented photographers...

(in the interest of full disclosure, this post was written on a MacBook Pro, with an iPhone in my pocket and a MacPro in front of me)
