Evening
After a few years of running an air-cooled OC'd 2600k, along with numerous mid-range GPU's, I've decided that technology has moved on enough to justify a totally new build.
My plan is for a reliable 24/7 4.8ghz O.C., without heating things up to surface-of-the-sun levels. Gaming isn't a massive priority, but when I do, I like it done right!
One thing......black and red is the theme!
Components selected so far are as follows -
Case - Corsair 780T. It's decent looking, hides the PSU with the side panel on, and has nice mounts for a rad.
Motherboard - ASUS Maximus VIII Hero. My ageing P8P67 Evo is a bit odd when it comes to overclocking, with a couple of BIOS screens seemingly doing the same thing, but then not, and some options being greyed out. How simple is the OC tuning on the Maximus? I'm not an idiot, but simple is always better!
CPU - 6700k. Not really any better options!
Cooling - Corsair H115i (with fans switched to Corsair ML140 Pro LED Reds). My current case has fans coming out of its ears. If I turn the rear exhaust fan into an intake, and pull the air up out the top through the rad, I end up with 2 fans less noise.....and less of a dust issue on top of the case!
GPU - MSI GTX 1070 GAMING X. Only really in this list for being the only properly black and red card I can find! Any major issues? I've owned MSI cards for a few years now (460, 560, 770) and haven't broken one yet!
PSU - Corsair HX750i. Enough grunt?
RAM - Vengeance, DDR4 2400Mhz. Prices for 16gb sets are all seemingly within a tenner or so of each other. Any better than this in the right colour?
HDD's - Re-using my current drives (main, 500gb Crucial M4 SSD, large storage, 3tb WD Sata III, system backups, my trusty old WD velociraptor, main off-site backup, 3tb Samsung USB 3 external))
If anyone sees a glaring issue with this build, let me know. I've researched a lot, but I thought a £1500+ build should have more than just me looking it over!
