Does your wife or Girlfriend do most of the cooking...?

I can already make a sammich though  Might have been a bit of an exaggeration saying I can only cook pasta and rice, thats not strictly true, but my skills are limited...

My daddy says I'm a very good cook, but then he lives predominantly on biscuits, so that's not saying much :D

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Try starting with the basics, like a sammich.

A roast dinner isn't exactly complex though so it isn't a bad starting point. Timing is only the real tricky bit and as long as the potatoes and gravy is hot you can get away with the rest!

Ekk, my gran used to boil everything until it was practically soup. She did however make damn nice cookies. Wish I'd gotten the receipe off her.
One of my Gran's is a little overfound but the otherone - wow her food is the best (well it's also the quality of the food meat from a proper butchers is great!). It's only rivalled by my best mates Gran who's cooking is incredible - went over for breakfast one morning and she litterally kept cooking whilst we were eating until we were full!

Cooking I've found is perhaps 35% imagination and 75% knowledge.

If you have a good grasp of the different methods of cooking, a broad knowledge of ingredients (including spices), and know roughly what you're doing; you can cook. I've made (well, forced to being a student with limited ingredients) some fantastic concoctions which turned to become staple favourites. Using your imagination is a great way to get to grips with what you're doing. Literally, just go buy a load of fresh ingredients, etc. and get stuck in. I actually enjoy cooking, I find it quite relaxing.

One of the hardest things I've actually found in cooking is actually timing in that you get all of it to be done at the same time.

I've known some right planks though: some people who think microwaving a frozen meal is cooking.

Invest in some of those packets of spices you get for ~70p and start practising the meals from there.

I don't want to sound patronising, but get to know your ingredients - what pasta is made up of, etc. I wouldn't say not being able to make pasta means you can't cook because it's what I'd deem as a more 'advanced' or indeed, basic if you will - knowledge of cooking. It will however, help should you ever want to have a go.

It's easy enough to buy things like Yorkshire mixes these days, but it's far more satisfying to make it from scratch in my opinion.

Hehe, see my above post. It isn't no, but I've known some real kitchen retards in my time.

I cook almost all the time, in fact I think she last cooked a meal for both of us before xmas.

She does the odd salad for herself but the general understanding is she does the washing and ironing and the kitchen is my responsibility.

Jesus, if my wife cooked then life as a healthy human being would be over.

The kitchen is my domain as I love cooking. The last time she cooked was when I had an ilness last August. She can microwave soup bless her. :)

All I know about pasta is that it comes in a bag, and that it goes in a pot of ( initially ) boiling water for ~ 22 minutes. :p

22 minutes? I guess you don't feel the need to chew food?

What worries me most about this thread is the sheer number of people that either don't know how to cook or have a partner that doesn't know how to cook!
