maybe its just an over-reaction but this is really ****ing me off.

Over the past few months my sister has been raising funds for a school trip to Romania - Think she raised near 2k herself in the end. She was meant to head off tomorrow but took not well. Just been to the doctor and she says she can't travel. What a kick in the teeth that is after all the effort. It doesn't come much more crap than that for someone still at school! Thanks for listening.

No swearing

Thats is sad:(
Is there any chance she could join them in a few days or maybe get to go next year?
What was she going to do out there.

we have all been down with a bad flu/virus here and i've had food poisoning too. I think it is a sensible move obviously as the hospitals in romania would be well dodgy but still it seems such a waste after all the effort to raise money for orphanages and disabled childrens schools that she won't be able to go and see for herself where the money is going. I'm probably more annoyed than she is right now!

Edit: and no i think the £2k will be going without her!

Disappointing indeed, sounds like she did a fair chunk of fund raising. I hope the school really shows their appreciation of her efforts now she can't go .

Get well soon...

£2K for a school trip?!? Is that £2K per pupil, or was she paying for the entire school to go..?

No no you misunderstand mate. The pupils pay for their own way to get there. This 2k is money that she raised which would then be donated to the schools and orphanages when she gets there.

Sounds more like she's raised that for charity and the trip is secondary just to see how/where the money is being spent.

@OP, surely the school can make an exception for such a case, regardless of whether she's left by next year?

Oh, I see..... yeah, that would make sense actually. Sorry... didn't get much sleep last night and not thinking straight today.

Well im not sure of how things will work out but its just the initial disappointment that getting us at the moment. I guess it would have been a lot worse if she had taken ill over there cause they are bound to be some of the most ropey hospitals around!

Thats pretty bad mate, when I was 15, I had to get the money together so I could go skiing with the school. I washed cars, babysat - you name it I did it.

I would be gutted if I fell ill few days before and couldnt go.

Although I came close mind...It snowed the day before I went, and we went sledging. Some arse went crashing into my ankle and almost couldnt get my ski boots on when I got there...but it healed up fast :D

It could be worse, she could go to a school where these sort of experiences just don't exist. In the 6 years I was at high school, I can remember there being a trip to Skye for the higher RE pupils and that's about it.

Hey, that does suck indeed.

My younger brother Graham was set to go off to Peru on October 2nd last year, he became ill on the Monday and doctor said there was no way in hell he could make the long trip to Peru. He was completely gutted about it, but wasn't that annoyed as he got to be with his family and girlfriend for a little while longer.

He was able to go a month later on November 5th and has reached the half way point on Monday there! Can't wait to have him back at the end of June!

Apparently he is more tanned than some of the boys who live in the town! :D

I know how she feels, I was due to set off to Aus overland via motorbike end of next month.
Looked out the window on Saturday night to find my bike had been nicked!
And 'course the insurance won't cover it 'cos it wasn't garaged

aww good stuff - at least he got away in the end! I finally think I am calming down a bit now about the whole thing but i was pretty ragin earlier - nothing we can do!
