I'm back baby!
This evening my mum was walking my dog, he's been here today while I've been working and playing football.

The park was empty and the night was drawing in, though it wasn't quite dusk, and there was no-one about. So my mum let him off the lead. After a few seconds he pricks his ears up and sniffs the air, and starts ambling towards the gate, so my mum went after him, calling him. Unfortunately he's still a young dog and when he gets a scent or sees another dog he just doesn't listen.

A pitbull (unconfirmed) came into the park on a very long lead (the sort you have for a smaller dog, with a click button that allows them a bit of room to roam without letting them off the lead) and Rocky goes to sniff and to say hello. He's a playful dog and sometimes annoys older dogs when he won't leave them alone.

The other dog snapped at him, grabbed him by the throat and started thrashing him around, all the while the guy with the lead is shouting at my mum to get her dog off his :confused:

Rocky has been to the vets and has been given a course of antibiotics and we've had to saltwater bathe the wounds.

I'm glad in a way that I wasn't there, because I'd have killed the other dog and quite possibly the owner. All he did was stand there shouting at my mum. Didn't shorten his dog's leash, didn't attempt to get it off my dog's throat... My mum believes we should go to the police, but I'm not sure there's anything they can do.

That's a dangerous dog though that doesn't have the correct precautions. It had a harness on and a clicker lead. Dumbfounding.
 
Sorry to hear about poor Rocky, I hope he starts to get better really soon. There's nothing more horrible than seeing another dog attack yours :(

I don't think the police will do anything. As far as they will be concerned, the other dog was on a lead (albeit a long one) and Rocky went over to it. They'll also probably suggest that your Mum couldn't control Rocky, as he didn't return to her when she called him. Unfortunately, that's the way they'll look at it, so I doubt they would take any action - except maybe force the guy to put a muzzle on it.
 
Horrifying. Maybe your dog frightened the other one running over and the owner saw it as a charge, just one of those things that happened i expect.

Did your Mum get ANY details about the other dog or its owner at all? Even the name the owner was shouting at his/her own dog?

I don't know the law about things like that but a dog like that should have been trained to listen to its owner and the owner should be responsible enough to take the proper precautions with dogs like that.
 
The way I saw it is, that might not have been a dog it might've been a young un. The owner was obviously not paying enough attention.

I'll do all I can to stop Rocky getting to other dogs. Sometimes it can't be helped, but the equipment this other guy was using isn't up to the task of walking a powerful dog.

She was too upset to talk about details because she wholly blames herself.

I doubt she remembers any details but we'll talk about it at some point tomorrow.
 
your dog was off the lead and went over to one that was on a lead , so legally it is probably your mums fault for not having control of your dog even though yours wasnt the aggressor
 
my daughter says that you should go to the police because regardless of wether it was on a lead it attacked your dog. under the dangerous dog act it states that if a dog is dangerously out of control in a public place the owner/ dog walker is guilty of an offence.

Lauren also says she hopes Rocky is ok because she loves him and all boxers!
 
some dogs are just killers that will attack anything and everything ,it may have been a english bull terrier ,my old landlord had one that I once took for a walk ,it just attacked ever thing it came across and was so strong .He had it insured Incase he got sued !
 
Had a similar thing happen to my dog, Gilly.

Difference was my dog was on the lead (once I had spotted the other dog was off the lead).

Now my dog wasn't exactly soft (large German shepard), but the attacking dog was a complete sycho, so I had to pull it off.

I was badly bitten before I managed to get behind the dog and get it in a head lock. The owner of the dog had no lead on them but he grabbed it by the coller after I had it in the head lock.

End of problem, Yes?

No, he couldn't hold on to the dog and it escaped his grip, resulting in more bites to me and my dog until I managed to get it in a headlock again.

I ended up giving the other dogs owner my dogs lead to keep it under control.

Result: One lost lead and lots of bites to me and my dog.

What fun :(

Im a dog owner and although i sympathise with the situation this is correct. Your dog was off the lead and his wasnt.

I do suspect he was shouting at your mum to get her dog off so as to remove any blame from himself should it been investigated and witnesses called.. "yes i saw the dog on the lead being attacked by the one off the lead and the woman was doing nothing after being shouted at to stop her dog attacking" etc etc.

He is a bad owner by the sound of it but then again your mum having your dog off the lead around other dogs isnt the best. Unless of course she had the same control over your dog that you have?
 
"Here we go" as in lets blame the breed arguments which, are quite frankly, a load of crap!

And markyp23, you show me that a bull terrier is a dangeous dog, a registered dangeous dog, and I'll show my arse.
