Dog just gave me rage!

I will think you will find that 'alpha dog theory' is rubbish, so there isn't any issue there. The dog gets fuss on my terms, and in this case an hour after the incident.

My understanding is that whenever you need to reprimand a dog you need to do it on-the-act. Not later. Dogs can't understand past/future actions. Therefore you reprimanding him after an hour will just confuse him as he won't be able to figure out why you are doing it.

I'm not advocating the alpha dog theory but dogs are group animals and they need to have a leader that they always respond to. The fact that your dog didn't respond to your request shows that there is some confusion about the roles in his head.

Anyway, that's just my interpretation of the events, it doesn't mean I'm right as I don't know that much about dogs anyway!

What a load of nonsense. Dogs know their place, they often see themselves below the man of the house but can feel on par with kids, which is why kids can be a bit more playful with dogs and also rubbish at issuing commands to them.

The damn dog (springer spaniel) has just given me a massive bout of rage this morning by running outside and somehow managing to catch a pigeon. Stupid bird just waddled about whilst Tyler (yes, stupid name, but it was already his when we got him) charged at it. He managed to knock it over and then got it on the second pass.

That annoyed my, but it was the lack of wanting to drop the bird to hand and when I commanded him to.

Grrr, dogs!!! Sometimes they are so lovely and other times they take the pee out of you!

Thats set my day up :(

Then continue training the dog. Our spaniel took a few years of training, but even after she's caught a pheasant, a firm shout and she'll drop it, or retrieve it.

My dog wont drop his tennis ball, never has done and never will hes 11 now, so i have to take 2 with me on walks. Its just his thing, will drop anything else just not a ball.

Here you go...

can he teach my dog to get them. i bloody hate pigeons and turtle doves. the noises they make go through me. only a month now until they start cooing at 5am and dont ****ing shut up.

i want to get an air rifle and shoot them but the mrs says we have to eat them if we do that. no thanks.

I thought you were going to say he'd proceeded to run through the house and cause a bloody mess.

But no, he simply caught a pigeon

Springers are best dogs ever! as someone said above, lucky it wasnt a cat and decided to it would be best to give you the dead pigeon as a gift

another reason i hate cats. they are evil things.

they still come in our garden - even though the dog has almost caught 2 that have. im sure they do it to tease the dog.

natural to him wouldnt be annoyed tbh.

dad has Russell's on farm they often bring rabbits and so on just doing what they know. if youd grabbed the pidgeon with your mouth that would be a different matter :D
