Dog problem

You should think yourself lucky, we have a golden lab & she won't do it in a single spot as she is to nosey so she walks around popping bits out whilst having a sniff around the garden doing the odd crouch.

I think 11 is her best effort.

I have a dog my self and either way if its outside the yard or in the yard you have to pick it up, so to me it doesn't make much difference. Least the dog has the sense to keep it to one area and not the whole yard. :P

Thats what i was thinking, clever dog! :D

When your parents were training you where to poop you did exactly that.
You learnt that you had to wait until you got home or taken to toilet in a shop or somewhere similar to go.

Only when I felt like actually taking a dump.

You can't poo on-demand. Bowels don't work that way, as has been mentioned already. You can hold if for a bit if you need to go, but if you *don't* need to go, forcing yourself will result in unpleasant health issues.

Sync walks up to dog's poo-cycle?

My mums got a Malamute she ***** everywhere in her garden, they have to pick it up constantly, this is normal you know.. most dogs do defecate in gardens. Trouble is her dogs excrement is like seeing horse manure when you're driving down the road. You need a shovel to get rid of it.

Make sure you feed him at the same time every day. That keeps it all regular and you can know when to expect it.

sounds like the OP want the dog poop away from his home so he doesnt have to pick it up.

seriously, whats wrong with dog pooping in your back garden . surely you'd knew that before getting a dog ?

Well I can only hope the op doesn't fit into the category of people who get these 'cool' looking dogs but don't want it to affect their lifestyle. I would say your pup is doing well if he is only going in one corner, and that should be enough.

You can train him to do it in one area. You cannot train him to wait until you decide to walk him, that is not how bowels work.

You should not have a dog.

This. Training a dog to do it in one area and not everywhere in the garden is the ideal target of all dog owners. You just have to clean up one area.

If at 4 mos old he is doing his business outside in the garden then that's good news. Up to around 6 mos I think most puppies are still expected to have several accidents here and there in the house as they still don't have full control/understanding of when the need to go.

My little CKC will go for a poop on the grass when outside but if we're not out too long then he'll come in & go poop in the yard. This isn't really a problem as his routine has always been, wake up, go outside, meal, same for lunch when he was young enough for 3 meals a day, then same for dinner. When I get home, first thing is open the door to the yard, when he comes in from doggy day care first thing we do it head to the yard.

As others have said it's about routine & it's nothing to worry about if he's not going during the walk.

Does your pupster react to voice commands? For instance with mine I've always asked him if he needs a wee or a poop. If I ask him that during the day with the back door open he'll pop outside. Now he doesn't always go but he does get what I'm asking.

Bottom line though, I think you're thinking there is more of a problem here than there is. :)

Well this is going to derail the thread slightly, but our dog who normally holds it for the whole walk then does it in our garden did it mid walk today....

However a bit further on I happen to notice a small zip lock bag with what appeared to be a sheet of acid tabs in it! I left it right where it was, there's no way on earth I'm walking down the road with ~60 acid tabs in my pocket! so I rang the police when I got back.

As others have said, it's just an extension of normal toilet training. You've presumably done it for your house, now extend that to your garden, but it does put the onus on you to take him out frequently.

Our rescue hasn't gone in the garden, even for a wee apart from if he's been ill, it actually took some adjusting for me because I was used to taking previous dogs for 2 walks and just letting them in the garden before bed, but he gets 3 walks now.

you have to start early .

when puppy when they mess wipe nose in it. old method but it works.
If it does work (which it usually doesn't) then it has worked in the wrong way, you shouldn't be making your dog afraid of you, if you are then you shouldn't have a dog.

We must have a great dog, ours refuses to do it in the house/front garden/ back garden, he will only do it in wide open grassy spaces, now don't get me wrong he was toilet trained at an early age, but he was never trained to do that.
