Dog thefts

I had someone eyeing up my dogs earlier, driving slowly by looking at them. Don't think a 10 year old mongrel and a nearly 17 year old black lab are worth nicking mind, unless for dog fight fodder (also a thing).

See loads of people just plain lose their dogs out on a walk and then spam "find my dog" all over social media. I honestly don't know how so many people can lose a dog.

What bothers me is people sharing guff like "some scum is leaving poisoned food in X location" or "some disease from another country is doing the rounds dogs are falling to it left right and centre". People share the living daylights out of them but yet to meet someone whose ever had any sort of issue.

Another big lockdown issue is poaching. Lots of dogs being used to bait badgers and for hare coursing.

It's lucrative at the moment.

I considered getting a dog, but was put off when I found out the price had close to tripled recently for what is a reasonably common breed.

There was a report of an attempted dog snatching on the local news the other day. Unfortunately for them, he was a former boxer. Ah, sometimes there is justice...

always wondered about expensive animals, outside of breeders for shows and the like if you're just wanting a pet why pay that kind of money when you can get them from rescue centres?

also has the side benefit of generally coming pre-housetrained and you're doing a good deed?

You wouldn't believe it, but it's not very straightforward getting a rescue dog, if you've got other pets or kids, or you want a younger dog you're probably out of luck in 99% of cases, thus most people have to resort to breeders or those selling their dog.

Because most people want a puppy and a specific breed. Given that most people eat meat I don't see why there would be an expectation that people should rescue animals from shelters.

I've got a cousin who had her 4 month old Pug nicked off her in the street and a friend who had a 15 year old dog nicked off her.
She tried to fight them and said the dog was 15 with so many problems but they didn't listen.
Both of them are distraught.

Agree with you typer, its not always straight forward regardless of the dogs age.

I’ve had an ex show dog, spent a life in and out of a crate, completely unsocialised, wouldn't get on with the dog Ive had since a pup(both papillons). Harder to train the show dog than it was the pup between lunging at everything in the park to constant floor wetting.

People underestimate how much energy and consistency goes into training a dog, well worth it in the end. It breaks my heart to see a dog confined to a house their entire lives, especially when owners are working a 9-5. They need to be socialised with plenty of exercise.

Absolutely shocking. What use would they have with a 15 year old dog. I know its not always easy to tell a dogs age but at 15 years, the signs are pretty obvious.

Several people i know have had a van pull up with eastern Europeans (Romanians?) Get out and try to take dogs off owners.

Successfully on one occasion, the teenage kid was left distraught. This is not far from the traveller site on the news.
There has been lots and lots of dogs stolen round my way. Had break ins where dogs were targets as well.

Scum bags

Heard the other day that someone near us paid £3.5k for a French bulldog. Can't believe how expensive these pedigree dogs (and cats) are... Its terrible that they are being stolen off people but not surprising if they are worth that much, and presumably easy to sell on.

Bloke who lives over the road from us has just got a pair of French bulldogs, £3k a pop. He doesn't work but he does seem to have quite a few visitors at all hours of the day and night though, and they never seem to stay for long either.

Sounds like he's selling something other than dogs then!!!

And then you have idiots leaving their mutts tied up outside of shops when they bugger off to go shopping.

All over Facebook, not one mention of why did you leave them outside.
Yesterday I chained my bike to a metal street sign that I could still see through the window but an idiot had just wrapped a dog lead around a drainpipe with his family member totally vulnerable.

There's been 4 attempted thefts around here lately. @TonyTurbo78 I don't know if you ever see the lady out with her dalmatian but she got approached last week by 2 guys and just ran for it. If they try touching my dog then I'll be doing time :D
