This is how I deal with a ridiculously heavy work load:
Work my contracted hours. Go home and relax.
Let the backlog build up. A manager will notice and start to panic. If they know you are a hard worker they will do something about. Get more bodies on the job, paid overtime etc.
I even refuse paid overtime when there are backlogs and they have to go and find someone else. Don't waste your life on work, it's not worth it. Unless you are trying to find a cure for cancer or doing something that is actually helping humanity in a big way.
