Done For Speeding

Don't always assume your speedo overread or GPS is accurate, I was in my mates car when he got done for 94 and his speedo was reading 95 in his 10 year old 406 not exactly renowed for a accuarate speedo and GPS was saying 88. Policeman said GPS isn't as accurate as people think, the police cars speedo is calibrated by moving the car over a set a distance as this is more accurate than GPS. Remember there is a fudge factor put on gps by the US Government and they can't give accurate speed when going up or down hills.

If you are on a flat road holding a constant speed, GPS is virtually 100% accurate.

I didn't think you could get a Ban, points and a fine I thought you could only get two of them

Thats was I thought until Tuesday !! It may be different in Scotland as to me it did seem a harsh sentence. (Hes in his 40s and has never had any points in the 20odd years he has been driving !!)

Dogbreath says "Don't always believe everything a policeman says"

On relatively straight road such as a motorway, a GPS will achieve the accuracy stated by the manufacturer (typically under 1mph). Accuracy does degrade when driving through twisty roads, which is more down to the slow sampling speed of commercial GPS receivers.

Ok Mr_White you go ahread and think thats acceptable - I am sure you will tell us your "skillz" make it ok for you to do this speed.

Deary me...

At least have some substance if you're just going to say "ZOMG 104MPH AM NEVER ACCEPTABLE!"

Better go and tell Germany, all the race tracks, and all the car manufacturers, and all the people on completed deserted roads.

Unfortuantely for them they haven't been blessed by your amazing intellect.

Are these the completely deserted roads which are completely deserted, so completely deserted infact you can get followed for a mile by another car :p

Well I won't defend him on that point after your first post ;)

Some of you really do enjoy picking on people lol, whats done is done and he or anyone else on here that has been done for speeding does not need you goon coming onto there advice threads and bashing them for speeding, obviously got nothing better to do with your lives

Well, I'm in exactly the same boat. Got caught doing 116 average on my bike a while back.

The police were fine about it. There wasn't much traffic around and it was a 4 lane section of motorway. Its usually a very fast bit of road, so I can see why the police patrol it. They must stop loads of people.

I have received my court appearance date now, been told I must attend. I'm pleading guilty and I dont plan to make any arguments or any form of defence. I'll take whatever punishment they give on the chin and carry on with my life.

Whereas your life is so packed full of exciting stuff you've got time to post in a thread to moan at people for posting stuff you don't like :p

What colour is the kettle, Mr Pot?

After a little reading up there is upto a 5% fudge factor which means depending on how the US Government feel can lead to a speed 5% out, generally speaking the don't use the full 5%. Of course the US government can take out the fudge factor for there use. Also how many roads are flat........

I always thought GPS was pretty accurate myself tbh but this case highlighted the fact its not as the police car had been calibrated that afternoon. We were going down a pretty constant slope however. (the car was on cruise also)

I have not driven on a single road in the UK that I would say is suitable for over 100mph.

People keep comparing us to Germany but honestly look at their road infrastructure compared to ours. They spend billions on building and maintaining roads that can be used for high speed with minimal traffic. Our roads are under funded, overcrowded, poorly maintained and unlikely to improve with all the tree hugger demonstrations.

Going fast has nothing to do with skills. You push a pedal and keep it straight.

You may think that going 116mph is absolutely ridiculous. Its dangerous and I'm bound to crash or kill some innocent children. If I was going through a 20 zone then you'd be right, or if I was in a 10 year old AX with crap tyres, knackered suspesion and about a foot of toe out.

However when you're sitting on a sports bike in beautiful sunshine on a long straight 4 lane motorway with a bit of a downwards slope and no traffic in front of you, I can assure you that 116 is just pootling along.

I would never say ZOMG, so don't put words in my mouth.

How did your amazing intellect derive that I thought it was unacceptable due to safety shrelock? For your information I find breaking a speed limit by 40% odd unacceptable.

You're a funny one.

So basically your comment had no weight behind it at all and is simply a moral issue?

Awesome.
Wrong - where did I mention morals?. I said exceeding a legal limit by such a margin is unacceptable (let alone stupid) who cares about my opinion - I think you will find the authorities would find it such.

What other legal limits are you so flexible on?
