Hi all,

Before I start I know what I have done is stupid so please only post in this thread if you can offer any advice please.

My M.O.T ran out last week and I was going to get it done on tuesday but i have just had an accident. I went in to the back of a friends car, according to the recovery guy it will be £1000+ so will have to go through insurance.

Will they ask to see the M.O.T? And what will happen if they find out that it ran out?

Again please dont post to say that i was stupid and shouldn't have been driving because I already know that.

Thanks
Chris

I wasn't asked for an MOT certificate when i bumped the fiesta, they came, picked it up, repaired it and returned it.

They wont check for the bump, its the police you have to worry about if you have a producer and even then you will probably just get a warning.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Damage on my car is the front bumper, grill, bonett, radiator and fans as far as I can tell. My friends card will be a wright off as its only a P reg Fiesta.

Is there any chance they wont find out or should I be honest?

I remember 2 year ago the same thing happened to my dad and they diddn't ask for it.

EDIT: A police car was going past whilst I was waiting for tow truck and he stopped to ask if everyone was ok then had it away.

They wont ask for the MOT certificate for repairs but they WILL ask for the MOT certificate, along with the other documents, if they pay out on a total loss.

Which this car almost certainly will be if its a P reg Fiesta.

Infact given its a P reg Fiesta worth perhaps £500 at the most, why are you even considering claiming? It will cost you so much more in the long run.

Edit: I see your friends car is the Fiesta. What do you have?

My mate at work just had a crash in his van, and then found out the MOT had expired. He spoke to the insurance company who said they'd only pay out for the third party.

When my Mondeo was written off I sent a copy of my MOT certificate in along with proof of my own insurance, otherwise they were not willing to pay.

I had a blow out years ago. The car was a week over the MOT expiry. (My parents did all the maintenance and looking after this kind of stuff at the time, I had no knowlege of this).

Although I was bricking it when I found out, they never checked, nothing came of it. Got the pay out, everything was fine. Guess it depends on the insurance company. I got told there was a few weeks grace on it.

This was quite a few years ago though, so things might be different.

Have you got an electronic MOT cetificate? If so, your insurance company will have access to the database which will tell them if you're taxed and MOT'd, as the police would check to see if you were insured etc.

Provided the slam panel and inner wings aren't bent inwards (although this is likely as the 206 front end is weak), you could have this fixed for about £1500.

More than likely it will need re-jigging. My insurance paid out £3300 for re-jigging, new bonnet, bumper, underlight + grille piece, new right wing and all new brakes and suspension components on the front of my car, all painted as new.

The suspension and labor involved with the suspension must have made up half that, along with the rejigging making up a bit of a labor cost also.

This is what happened to mine:

That's what you get for driving a modern eurobox designed to break into a million pieces at the slightest tap.

Same thing happened to me (similar thing).
I called the local MOT guy (been there a few times), he backwards booked me in for 20 mins after the accident and evoila it turned out ok. You are infact legal so long as you're on the way to the MOT station.
