Same thing happened to me (similar thing).
I called the local MOT guy (been there a few times), he backwards booked me in for 20 mins after the accident and evoila it turned out ok. You are infact legal so long as you're on the way to the MOT station.

That would have been a good idea but i dont know anybody who would be willing to do that for me. Plus I was quite far from home (newton aclif when I live in durham)

Check the smallprint of your policy. Dispite what you expect few policies insist on an MOT, as you could be 364 days and 40k miles since your last MOT when you crash.

Instead they want the car to be "in roadworthy condition"

Thats entirely seperate to the issue that the market value of a car with no MOT is virtually nothing, and the payout of a total loss is based on market value.

When i crashed my Accord, i didnt need to show my MOT before the car was repaired.

When my Pug 306 was written off by some coffin dodger i had to send my MOT certificate to my ins. company before they would give me my money.

My friend wrote off his 02 reg VTR about a year ago and it was due it's first MOT but he forgot about it. The police came to the scene of the accident and let him off due to the fact it was only a few days and accidental. His insurance company paid out and didn't ask for an MOT. Oh he had 2 bald tyres and undeclared mods too.

Just had a call from the insurance and there sending someone to pick it up in the morning to take it to be repaired.

Looking at the pick i posted what are the chances of them wrighting it off?

They didn't write mine off, so if they write yours off I will be very very annoyed as my car sustained far more damage.

Infact given its a P reg Fiesta worth perhaps £500 at the most, why are you even considering claiming? It will cost you so much more in the long run.

depends entirely on the spec of thing. A P reg mk4 fiesta is worth more than 500. 500 i would say was the minumum amount. My N reg mk4 is worth more than double that at least and thats older.

i crashed my first real car quite badly about 10 years ago. the MOT was out buy about 3 weeks or something but I didn't realise at the time. Had to do a producer after the accident. Went to the station a few days later without MOT and told them I don't have current MOT as it had just run out.

They didn't bat an eyelid and the insurance company never mentioned it. The claim got payed out (probably about £20,000 as I hit someones house AND car).

I think perhaps in those days the insurance company and the police didn't talk to each other, added to the fact that on my recent insurance I can see a line that talks about the insurance only being valid if the car currently has a valid MOT certificate. I think I was just lucky before.

My friends car is a 1.3 encore so i'm pretty sure it will be written off.

I went on a car valuation website and it says mines worth £4800 so i'm hoping that thet will fix it

My car (1.4 Quiksilver) is worth about the same, repairs cost £3300+ other bits, so you're safe.

When i crashed mine the car was worth about 3900, damages came to 2k so i managed to get it written off.
