DON'T BUY MSI THEY MIS-SOLD TOP SPEC GT SERIES LAPTOPS with MXM Graphics

Considering Carolyn @ MSI gave someone £1,400 worth of laptop for free, for absolutely no reason, you should refuse to pay.

I agree with what he says .

why pay for a repair when its only meant to be an upgrade .. would you be paying MSI for repairs if it was "JUST" An "MXM" exchange into your faulty machine ? The answer would be "NO" you wouldn't so why on an upgraded laptop .

I have stated to Natalie, that i think the repair bill is unfair and that i wouldn't have had to deal with a repair cost if it was just the graphics upgrade as advertised.

BUT if you read the terms and conditions for accepting the upgraded laptop it states that "no physical damage to parts or laptop" #5 in the terms and conditions section.

Again this is something i believe is unfair as normal wear and tear of the laptop isn't even considered.
I have read some people have gotten free upgrades on the laptops, but i don't know about the repair issues. i would probably pay the repair bill if i knew i would get a free upgrade thats worth £300 like some other people on here.

im looking through the old messages for references can you pinpoint who got the £1400 upgrade please

Well to anyone who knows about the situation with me everything has been resolved and despite a rocky patch between me and MSI the product manager has really done good by me. so i will be keeping my GT83VR 7RF which is an absolute MONSTER. MSI make great and solid products. and i will buy again the product manager pretty much saved my future customs with this company because i was prepared to fully write them off.

Upgraded to the GT83VR 7RE (or 6th gen equivalent), but received the GT83VR 7RF that has a massively higher SRP.

I really feel for you guys. Makes me wonder, after reading this thread, why anyone would buy anything from MSI?

Dropping £2-3000 on a laptop, you'd want it to be as advertised and work perfectly for many years. :-(

Does this sort of nonsense happen with other manufacturers?

i would like to state that this was not a free upgrade it was a mistake by msi sending me the wrong model and expecting me to send it back after i had spent all day installing all my stuff and personal details on it. a major inconvenience to me. they threatened me with legal action if i don't send it back and due to a massive inconvenience to myself i after waiting so long i chose not too. Carolyn more or less saved me from going to court. so i will give msi credit where its due despite our falling out. Carolyn has saved my future customs with the company and restored a little faith back in them. There customer service reps ? totally different story.

I took a big risk but after being treated badly and also harassed by a personal FB account (no names mentioned) i was too utterly ****** off to care. that has been rectified and i can now move on with my life.

Always good to hear of these things working out for the best.

MSI making mistakes that cost them a grand in lost revenue whilst trying to charge folk for damage that wouldn't of mattered if they had not mis-sold these notebooks will stick in the throat of those having to pay it.

I do agree all this could have been avoided. it's been abit of a rollercoaster really. my advice to msi is to learn from this. and also how i was treated and spoken to by carolyn is exactly how i would like to be spoken to as a customer. she was really sympathetic and non patronising or passive aggressive. no threats no nothing she was utterly professional. Anyways this is my final post on this thread. and is the last time i will look at it. time to forget about all this. i hope you all enjoy your laptops and thanks for all the support MISJAH

i'm still waiting to hear back from Natalie regarding what the management decides about my repair bill. this is the only thing holding me up from paying for the new laptop and having it shipped out. please let this get sorted soon...

i would like to know if MSI will make an mxm upgrade kit available for the gt73vr. such as making the gt73vr into sli if you purchased with a single card originally. or upgrading from the 1070 to 1080 or 1080 sli

I was intrigued by the idea of upgrading GT73VR with single GTX 1070 to SLI also; I asked elsewhere and got the following reply:

Tanner@XoticPC said:
Currently MSi is not offering any GPU upgrade kits to do this and have said you would need to purchase the model with this upgrade to receive this.

I dont think MSI would allow us to do it without voiding warranty , they would ask for us to send our Notebooks in for the 1080ti upgrade agasint the 1080 and then ...wait for it ............ even though its only an upgrade ..............try and charge me for damages or dents in my own laptops that wernt even there before hahaha ...

Joke aside .. i would love it if we were able to upgrade to a 11GB 1080ti or even a Volta , if Volta is a possibility then I would wait ;)

Your machines would struggle to fit the PCB and cool it.

Only something like the np9873/p870dm would fit and cool such a card.

Hypothetical questions;

Couldn't the GPU from the 1080Ti/Titan be transplanted onto the PCB for the GTX 1080N?
Doesn't the 1080Ti run cooler than the 1080?

Hmmmmm.

Different cores would require a different BIOS for one and a native 384bit memory bus chip rarely has the same pin out as a native 256 bit part ;)
