Dont Starve Thread

£12 is a bit steep for a Flash/ browser game. Is something I've had my eye on for a while, but I'll wait for the inevitable sale.

then you should have got it before it was released as it was 9 quid odd for 2 copies, you MIGHT be able to get one from someone who bought a preorder in MM, worth a shot i guess.

My daughter is loving this and i must admit it does look like a slightly fresh take on minecraft/terraria type games

Isn't Don't Starve way more PvE based though? Haven't seen a ton on this game tbh but it seems to me like there is very little base building, if any.

There's a lot more to it than a typical Flash game tbh.

There's lot of base building in the form of building up stuff to provide a food source for yourself to survive (especially in winter).

Its all PVE based afaik, ive only seen it being played now and then, not tried it myself. But as FT mentioned, its more about building yourself up to a position to survive in the world and against it.

How long does the game go on for? For as long as you can survive or is there an eventual end goal?

There are two game modes (and you can switch between the two seamlessly whilst playing). One is story mode, where there are a set number of levels and (obviously) a story. The other is basically an endless mode where you simply try to survive as long as possible. I've only really played the endless mode as when I was playing beta story mode wasn't complete but from what I hear, the story mode levels add some really interesting challenges to overcome and the story/theme sounds pretty cool.

I picked this up last night as I was bored, it's a bit odd/quirky.

Some of the resources are very scarce so I struggled to progress at any rate.

yea its basicly ray mears or bear grylls in video game form with a few aggressive beasties.

I got bored really fast as did my 8 year old boy, it was only £5 or something like that for 2 chrome keys + 2 steam keys though

Same, this was an impulse purchase last night and it seems a little thin on content and rather repetitive. There are a number of points where I think it could be so much better as the idea is good.

I think I might wait as well. About to go on holiday next week anyway, so dont really want to get invested in playing a new game until I'm back from that.

Tbh I tend to agree that £12 is a bit much. I felt the amount I paid for it was a steal though. I wouldn't say that the game is thin on content - but it doesn't throw it down your throat and you have to go out and actively find it.

Ah... I will wait until the steam sale, if it was £5, done. But £12? I can get Blood Dragon for that...

Oh no! I have read, watched and heard that it's a really cool little game! But worth £12? Probably if you had money to throw around.

£12 can buy lots of things. A game to add to my pile of other unplayed games... Not worth it to me haha.

However, gives me something to look forward to in the sales :D

for as long as you can be bothered to keep running around gathering food, someone finds a way to easily manage like you would in real life.
the devs think thats to easy so do something retarded to stop you having a berry bush farm or whatever by making them grow stupidly slow instead, and not replenishing unless you give them manure.

It's a shame because the game could be so much more and totally awesome but the devs just want a game where you constantly collect food and it gets boring fast.
There's no real re-playability to it other than trying to last longer than you did before and your start in the game is extremely random , sometimes you get lucky and the first few days are easy sometimes you get put somewhere crap and it's almost impossible to survive unless you can find a good area fast

The updates to the game have also been incredibly slow and something thats more of a novelty than useful
