Don't **** with angle grinders...

It's very easy to get blasé with power tools, and angle grinders used without guards demand a lot of care and attention. I cut my finger a while back with a 1mm cutting disk; I had very thick leather riggers gloves on so I couldn't tell my finger was too close to the disk until a couple of seconds later after it had cut through the glove and started on my finger.

One of the guys on LocostBuilders had a really nasty accident with a holesaw that made a valiant attempt to remove most of his face :(

Another good one pain wise is drilling the palm of your hand :(

I couple of years ago I was drilling the head off a screw of something and was stupidly holding it steady with my hand. I applied a bit too much pressure and the drill bit snapped, and with the drill still running and me leaning my not inconsiderable weight on it the jagged remains of the drill went right through the base of my left thumb, just missing the bone, and out the other side. One of those moments where you know you've hurt yourself, but you don't really want to look...

Gotta love OcUK.. you post something for the hell of it any everyone has to judge :p

Yes it looks like a scratch, what you can't see is how deep the middle is. It hurts like **** if I knock my finger and bleeds and oozes stuff out randomly :o

Yes it could have been a lot, lot worse. According to google a disc shattering has killed people before! Camera is crap as it's my phone.

Ouchy, have taken chunks out of my fingers before working on car and they usually sting like a *****, nothing that severe though.

I've witnessed worse though, friend of mine years ago was trying to widen the hole on a flat battery terminal with a cordless drill, was holding the cable with one hand while someone else drilled the hole.

Drill bit into the hole and twisted the terminal and cable around the drill bit with his finger inbetween.

After slowly unwinding the cable with drill in reverse we found had peeled most of the skin from fingernail to the second knuckle away, could see clean bone including the first joint!

Luckily it hadn't completely torn the skin off and even luckier hadnt damaged the bone so it was stitched up but left a rather nice scar.

Ironic thing was in his free hand he was holding a set of pliers :p

best i have had in was a 17yo ytp trainee on his first day in a factory. he dropped an angle grinder onto his thigh - cut right through his quads and took a nice anglegrinder blade shaped notch out of his femur.....bled like stink

had exactly same few months back, i had also taken the guard off to fit a bigger disk.

scared the hell out of me. plus add in the equation the fact i was working directly under a petrol tank...

never again.
