You could say i should put a build log in the appropriate forum but for me this is more of a journey and as i'm an amateur and i'm not ready to go pro just yet i will stay where i feel comfortable.

As allways any input or constructive criticism is allways welcome, am not 100% decided on the final build so feel free to chip in along the way :)

1 Mountain Mods Ascension cyo crafted by w3bbo

It came with all the watercooling bits n bobs you see in the pics but wanted to make it my own so 1 minute after New Year began it was out with the power driver and deconstruction time.

The only thing thats set in stone is it will house 2 systems 1 of which will be an sr2 and undecided on the 2nd probably a Rampage 3.
For the short term i will be running an i7 930 Rampage 3 on air untill the two new motherboard trays/backpanel are made and shipped.
Once i am happy and have fully decided on the exact setup configuration both will be installed on air just to see how much space is left and what i decide to watercool.

:D :D :D

Cool, just cool

Cheers Mr Marine....well why not whats the worst that can happen :)

i was wondering what you were going to put in the case after i saw you bought it, ill be interested to see this take shape..... now wouldnt 2 sr2s be a monster!

Ji K3v yes they will... err err i mean yes they would, still undecided going to put the r3 and 4 x 470 in tonight and get a feel for it

Haha, the plot thickens! good luck with it whichever way you go, just remember to keep it on seti ;)

:) I wish i could k3v i really do am so cash strapped at the minute am cointing pennies for toilet rolls tommorrow
But i will continue crunching at a mutch reduced output for the immaediate future see what the New Year turns up :)

**Edit** Your absolutely right k3v it has to be 2 x sr2 now thanks for a nudge in the right direction :)

Hi Mr dekez a few people have emailed me asking why i have dissmantled it but i wanted to start from the ground up on air, then test a few layouts first.
Just ordered and paid for 2 mobo trays for it and a replacement backpanel so hopefully they will be here in a few weeks and i can really get cracking.
Had heard a lot of good things about Mountain Mods so (this is k3v's fault for the record ;) i thought what the heck these will be on the way soon i hope.

2 of the mobo trays and the back panel to be powder coated in white of course and am waiting on 3 different lots of red tubing to see which one i like the most :)

Morning Sir-Les-Mp, part of the reason for doing it will be the huge drop in power requirements going from 2 i7-930 rigs and 8/9 gpu to 2xsr2's and 4 gpu should save quite a bit in the long run.
I know it's like putting all your eggs in one basket but it will allow me to get rid of a fair bit of hardware and everything will be in one place hopefully nice n neat when i'm finished :)
I can't keep calling it "Le Fridge" allthough it does look like one, so if anyone wants to chip in with any naming ideas.....keep it clean :)

I suggest "Vortex" or "Vortices" as it has many a fan in it :D

Not bad Mr M not bad but vortex suggests turbulance and confusion, allthough in my case its probably quite apt i might think of other names ;):)

This promises to be one very interesting thread - will follow closely while covering my eyes!

Good luck Toxic - you are in for a fun ride..

I was sat piddling about New Years eve and i knew i would never be happy unless i went all out knowing what the case can hold so you won't be the only one covering your eyes, your right though it's all about the ride :)

**Edit** on the plus side i was counting pennies for toilet rolls yesterday but found 4 kitchen rolls....that'll do me :D

Thanks for the kind words schizo220168, learnt a long time ago that being misserable takes up far too much time and energy.Smiling uses less muscles and keeps everyone guessing what your upto.
In all honesty it's such a big case and a lot of the work is allready done thanks to w3bbo so i will concentrate on the minor details, will be sure to put a few unique and decidedly odd touches to it :)

Yup overall lowering of the old electric bill was a priority, i won't even ask you what your averaging now except your probably working 30 out of 40hours a week just for electric.:(

Now we can't go picking on individuals just because they choose the wrong side of the pond can we ?
Yeah ok squish em like a bug on a 4x4 will give it my best shot when am up n running.

Didnt realise you were after an i7 Mr Halz sah, that'll teach you to pay closer attention to the members market ;):) Will have a root through me drawers and see if there's owt kicking about :)

I wasnt expecting to see that when i started reading this just now! That will make one hell of a crunching machine! Rough toilet paper is a small price to pay, i cant wait to see this thing go together.

Actually you gave me a bit of a push in the right direction when you hinted at it i owe you one:)

I have to agree with you guys on that one, the fight against disease is probably the most important battle we will ever face in our lifetime, to know "we are not alone" is not exactly a pressing issue in comparison.

A combination of cost and expertise has led me to the conclusion that this build has to be on air for the immaediate future. Could use any practical ideas you guys might have for dust filters especially for the front 9 fans, i will not be relying on ladies tights this time around :)

You could get a large square of dust filter material with some sort of ridgid trim round the outside, then attach it to the front face with small magnets.

It wouldn't look amazing but will probably be a lot easier than 9 small ones, cleaning would be a doddle as well, you could just plop it off and vacumn it.

Good plan Mr dekez the mesh will be easy enough to find its the edging that'll pose a problem when i go w/c later on but yup will work on that for now......Ta Muchly :)

Robin-Hood-Tights-bh01.jpg

:D Oh i seen that one coming, but in all fairness they're a great emergency stand by for dust filters and hoover belts etc :)

I would consider them the next best thing to have laying around, apart from thumbscrews and molex extension cables. Trying to decide where to place the case has been a toughy, have had to empty everyting into front room lay carpet and paint - my monitor has come a cropper so i might have to consider my 1st home insurance claim.
Tis all worth it though....no regrets :)

Looks like I may have to find another GTX470 to replace the ded one

Heck, no warranty accidental damage home insurance?, off the top of my head i know i don't have a spare but will dig a little deeper into the chaos ;)

Toxic, if and when you decide to go water I may be able to pop up north for a few days and lend a helping hand providing the missus doesnt object and my car is insured and on the road. The time off work wont be a problem

:eek::eek::D Woweee that would be unbelieveable helpfull!!! Needless to say you will not be out of pocket....thats great thank you very much for the offer :D

How much you wanna spend on filters? You can get proper filters to replace the wire fingergaurds for £2 inc in alu silver or £2.77 in black.

Morning Mr Biffa sah, if i understand you correctly you mean the wire grilles on the front? That would be an important part of the overall look so would be reluctant to lose them.
If its a competitor i understand but have had a look through ocuk cdon't seem to be able to find anything suitable.
I know i could easily put something on the inside but the plan is as soon as everything is installed/configured etc i will go for broke and get the watercooling done so it would have to be some kind of dust filter on the outside hmmmmm must go think some more

Well the way finances are at present Mr SiriusB sah i think it might be a fully decked out 1 sr2 but meh all in good time :)

Mountain Mods bits being disptched friday/monday coming....and so it begins!

Okay on the subject of watercooling gpu's have taken a liking to the ek-nickel/plexi blocks but can these 2 items be combined or is the backplate just for an unmodified card?

I have a feeling the gtx 560 will be out any day and am waiting for a £20-£25 drop in the price of gtx 570 before i take the plunge ...wanting muchly :)

No you can combine the two, they work together. Just be careful, that if you plan on having 4 cards together that you have enough room below the last card in the system you are building to have an outlet coming out from under the bottom card. You will probably be ok with the MM case. I need to check some pics of them and get back to you.

The reason I mention it is because the EK blocks are amongst the thickest, you really need two slots between cards to use them because by the time you add fittings as well you can run out of space. But then again you might be fine. (going to check pics)

Cheers for that figured it would be a shame not to finish em 'orf with a little shiny. Will be able to check everything before i get cracking by end of next week all should be here.
If the space did become an issue i could go with those rather snappy bits power compression fittings they look magnifico :)

Hi joeyjojo, just waiting on some bits to arrive before i decide on the colour scheme. The case will stay white, the fan grilles and fan controller knobs/silver buttons will probably go a matt red colour to go with the red tubing.

Fear not Mr dekez sah i am closer to sanity than most might think.
Have started from the ground up in preparation for the new machines and have an electrician in, those who have visited will know the problems i was having it was not pretty. Hopefully by the time he is done i will have the computer room on a ringmain of its own, not sure how the machines will react in regard to leakage when the trip switches go in but hey ho am going to do this right one way or t'other. :)
