doomsday prepper.

Thanks :)

All those that think it is stupid will be sorry if something does happen and me and my family have a glut of food, water and medical supplies and you are having to eat your friends and family and drink your own urine :)

If your times up its up.
I have seen a few episodes and the majority seem bat **** crazy, Some think that by stockpiling a bunch of food during a nuclear apocalypse they will survive.Another family was going about wearing disposable face masks and washing hands every two mins thinking it will save them from a deadly outbreak.

I did a vast amount of prep yesterday, 2 cheese cakes, three roulades, 24 creme brulee, and that'd just the cold side bits. Prepped some salmon and sea bass as well.

I'm a chef though so kind of in my job description. How would this "doomsday" actually happen? The worst thing I can imagine is being forced to watch xfactor and no amount of extra food or large garden tools could help me there..

There was a thread on this a few months ago. I think the poster had a mate who had a bunker and had stocked it with stuff to survive an apocalypse since he was a total nutter who thought the world economy was about to collapse due to the debt crisis and we would all be thrown into some kind of Fallout scenario. I believe either that guy or the poster was buying gold/silver as they believed this would be the new form of currency in the post-apocalyptic world. Then people pointed out that no-one would give a crap about gold/silver, people would be bartering with food and tools.

Most people already have most of what they need to survive in short term in their homes already....they just require the actual knowledge to use it...in the medium to long term, having a house full of food, weapons and other coveted goods is only going to draw a huge target on you for the first bunch of roving gang-bangers to come and take from you. Better to learn survival techniques and the ability to live off the land than hoard things people will certainly try to take from you by force.

If the land was nuked then you wouldn't be able to live off of it! :D

Fuel will be a very good bartering substance.

I think it's a good idea to have some preparation and just make sure that you have certain things in the house.

I know we're not prone to hurricanes but look what happened when hurricane Katrina hit America. Don't go and spend all of your money on a bunker or anything like that :)

Some basic tools, lighting, food supplies, bottled water are what I would suggest. Weapons if you're feeling paranoid :)

nuts. to be prepared for a snow day or temporary power outage i can understand but for doomsday then seriously paranoid. the people on that show have serious brain deficiencies and require the help of professionals

I've got quite the stock of medical stuff. Living off the land is all well and good but most people don't have the constitution for it these days ... fortunately I have the means to solve that problem.

Well there's always that kitchen cupboard with old cans of butterbeans, soup and tuna.

I live in London.... chances of survival in a doomsday scenario are practically nil. If the soup sustains me for the first week I'll just cut the arse out of my trousers and join a mad max style biker gang.
