I got something similar yesterday for diablo 3 saying I had a key and that i needed to send them the following details including password but the email seemed genuine.

I did not send anything as I am not stupid but the email was a [email protected]

They asked for
* Name:
* Battle.account name:
* Password:
* Country:
* E-mail Address:

Seemed way too dodgy.

P.s just looking I have the same email from steam, is it ok?

Someone asking for your account details for a Battle.net account, is totally different than opening the Steam hardware survey...

No, obviously not. Why would you ever need to provide your password?

Exactly just think it is stupid how they now have a fairly convincing email.

I would never send any of those details.

I also hate to think how many children get caught out on this. :D

Im not that stupid... :p

When I click it nothing happens. I put it in my URL bar and something popped up with steam so I clicked always remember and hit okay and then nothing happened. Tried restarting steam and still nothing.

1) Close Steam Completely (Not Running At All)
2) Open Run. On windows 7 is Start> All Programs> Accessories> Run
3) In The Run Box (Copy & Paste)|| "steam://takesurvey/1/" (No Quotes)
4)Press Enter
5) This should start steam up and bring you right to the Hardware Survey Part. After you are done with that I will link you to a website to finish the survey.

Had that too RollerBall, Steam forums say delete ClientRegistry.blob and restart steam and you should get an update. Seems like it worked for me.

Edit: Thanks for the thread btw, I wouldn't have checked for the email otherwise!

Thank you, the link was doing nothing for me before :)

I've never played DOTA.

How do I answer these questions in step 2? :(

I BS'd it, still hope I get in anyway. >_>

I've just had an email. Sadly I don't really want Valve to come away with the specs for my work PC so I'll be waiting to complete this until tonight :)

Got my invite to, but never having played DOTA i didnt know what to put in the survey.
I have however played HON and LOL

Its not an invite. Its just a survey, so they can start inviting more people based on different hardware etc....

I am praying for a beta key though :)

Can't even click the link, tried pasting it into Chrome and IE, tried clicking from the blog and from my email and still doesn't work :/

Open up a chat with someone and paste the link in there, then click it. That's what I had to do.

You need the latest steam client for this to work properly (Steam > check for client updates) then you may need to restart steam once or twice from a few friends experience and THEN you can goto the survey by putting it into cmd/browser/whatever.
