Dota 2 - Steam

I really struggled with this. IMO the UI is too big vertically. Playing in a top lane I just felt really, really claustrophobic or something. It really unsettled me not being able to see more than 2 inches ahead of myself, and I spent half the game clicking on the UI. There wasn't any issue playing the second half of top, mid was fine, and obviously the first half of bot was too. Basically any vertical plane just felt really cramped.

This could just be me, but the autoattack kicking in when you were retreating really got on my nerves. I'd run back (maybe because of the screen height issue) and at the end of the pathing, my champ would often run back towards the creep line to autoattack one of them. Basically I either spammed the right click, or I'd end up dying.

Apart from those 2 things, I thought it was ok. I don't really think it's going to be my cup of tea, but it's certainly solid enough in it's current state.

I get the same feeling sometimes during games like SC2. They keep the shown area the same for everyone due to "Balancing" reasons.

Yeah, I know that it's got to be the same for everyone, so no zooming out or anything. That's fair enough. I just resent the fact that I have 2-3 inches of playroom to the top or bottom, and between 2 to maybe 2.5 times that horizontally. I'd expect your field of vision to be roughly a square.

TBH I even set it to 1024x768 and 4:3 ratio to try and force a more square viewport, but it still basically gives you a letterbox.

I've played LoL, HoN and SC2 and none of them gave me that closed in feeling. That's why it's annoying me so much. I've played about 6 bot games in DOTA2 and I just can't bring myself to play it much more because of this. It could entirely be a personal thing though, I mean most others seem fine with it, but yeah, it's not great for me.

I've always been of the assumption that they purposely give you a low FOV to increase the skill required to play. You have to be able to effectively navigate without being able to see your character all the time and be able to use the map. It also adds to balancing mele vs ranged and some of the long range attacks.

It would be a lot harder to gank people if they could see you coming a mile away due to a big FOV. I do agree that the UI is too big though.

You can turn auto attack off in the options btw.

Not sure what it is about this game atm but I'm just not able to get into it :(

I've played bot games, co-op vs bots & even games with friends on teamspeak but it just seems boring

I used to play dota years ago and since then played hon beta & then lol (prob spent the most time on lol)

So far I think the UI is too big (noticed there is a huge thread on the dev forum)
The mouse cursor is massive (even on 1920x1080)

Everything feels enclosed and I feel like I need to be forever moving the camera as vision seems limited

The game feels like going back in time also
I know it's a beta etc so there will be bugs and tweaks will be made

I think there are a lot of tryhards in the community who just rage and flame which is going to make it hard for a lot of new people to get into it :(
I played a teamgame on TS with some peeps and a guy on our TS paused the game just so he could rage at a public guy for 'autohitting' where the other guy was obv new and wasn't good at last hits, often hitting 2 or 3 times before getting last hits
If this is what the 'community' will be like it's just going to make a lot of people give up before they even try to learn. Especially when u have ingame voice chat with people swearing and shouting (like ragers on fps games on consoles).

Unique Attack Modifiers.

I'm confused by them, and how they do or don't stack. For instance, if I have the Morbid Mask which gives 15% lifesteal, is that the only unique attack modifier I can have, full stop? Or is that the only lifesteal modifier? And then, for instance, I get the Desolator which reduces target armour by 6 with each attack, would they both proc since they are unique, and not stacking? Or would only one of them ever happen?

I'm assuming its just one. And if you get a second with a unique attack modifier, then it doesn't count and still uses the first UAM, no matter what? I just want to check this since it seems a little ambiguous.

Looks like they have some info on the dota2 wiki

http://www.dota2wiki.com/wiki/Unique_Attack_Modifier

Multiple modifiers do not stack; for each attack one modifier always takes priority. The order of priority is as follows:

Conditional Modifiers
Ability Modifiers
Standard Modifiers

Has anyone noticed FPS drops since the last big patch on dota2? :( also there seems to be random butterflies flying around the map and snakes etc

Ah, thanks!

I'm really happy with Jakiro at the moment, I love all his skills and damage output. However, I'm on the lookout for trying some other heroes as well. I was looking at Pudge, as I really like the idea of getting stronger for each kill made. Are there any other heroes like this, which can permanently increase their stats like that? Or even permanently decrease the enemies stats?

The lawsuit with Blizz has been settled.

Blizz lost and have changed their DotA games name to 'Blizzard All-Stars'

Now theres nothing stopping Valve from releasing it. Open the flood gates!

:D if it really was done mutually im pretty happy, two favourite developers/publishers.

Who was it predicting dota would never launch/completely change due to this :p?

I said it wouldn't launch until the dispute was settled and that the court proceedings were meant to go through to april next year ;).

It's good that they have agreed to drop the case effectively. Perhaps they have made some back hand deals on other things.

Not read the last few pages but doesn't F2P guarantee that the (already dire) community is going to get ten times worse?

If they do a level system with a cut off point hopefully not as you won't play smurfs, also generally if your the one to be nice and do the old smiley face even if it seems a bit derpish it makes people be nice and communicate.

I think you are right about that, at least that's my experience.

Anyone have a spare gift for this game? My brother wants to play with me, but I am the only one with the game. Thanks :)

Thanks Kam, I will ask him if he wants to do that. He may not want to due to having to switch between accounts each time to play. But I am sure he will say yes if he really wants to play.

Is anyone else using the extra account you have at the moment? :)

I quit pretty much all other games now, just do a bit of light gaming on the iPad. But remember I said I could easily get addicted to dota 2? Well when I got my own key it was even harder to resist and I ended up playing about 150 games since then. Lol. I have uninstalled steam and even went as far as removing some friends who might remind me of dota. Still after a few days I fancy playing. Lol :o:):D

Played nearly every hero now. Probably about 5 or so left that I have not bothered with. Awesome game, full of people with bad attitude though unfortunately.
