Dota 2 - Steam

Not got a problem with the Russians myself, I prefer them to some of the 'Dota snobs' (i.e. people who are good/ think they are good and feel the need to insult or deride every little mistake or kit choice you make) At least when the Russian does this I can imagine they are giving friendly words of guidance or support as opposed to the good ol 'delete dota now'

Been a while since I have faced the Bi*ching of other players but have started playing recently with some noobs and they are just learing the ropes......the things people say to them are crazy some people get way to attached to their dota characters - and when yo uconsider how many people go Pudge....thats just wrong! :P

They're even worse than dota snobs though. At least dota snobs know how to play the game and when they do give feedback, albeit in a hostile tone, the advice is sound. The few Russians that actually communicate in English don't know how to play, think they do and when they eventually fail they blame the rest of the team. That's far worse.

Have to disagree I'm afraid. I'm more likely to encounter a good russian player than a hostile dota snob that provides sound advice....to busy telling you to delete the game , to leave or using other more colourful language!

I think it smacks of stereotyping/ racism to label all russians as bad at the game, to my knowledge speaking russian does not hinder dota skill, you will have to link me to the science if its been proven otherwise. Is a bit frustrating not being able to communicate with them but i read somewhere their 'Russian' servers are based in Sweden anyway so they are damned if they do and damned if they don't - blame the developers for poor server implementation - no point getting angry at the symptom

Are they still giving out beta invites?

Tempted to buy the beta. Never played Dota or LoL type games before but can guess they're pretty good!

So this game is still in beta, yet it is the second most played game on Steam. This seems just a little bit overkill to me. I don't care what game you're playing, you don't need 70,000 concurrent users in order to iron out bugs/balance/whatever they are doing. Just release it already. The cynic in me says it's just a ruse to sell as many beta invites as possible... maybe they had second thoughts about making it F2P.

Valve already stated it would cause massive server issues and that is why it isn't being released. Maybe you had better go read.

The fact you can get a beta for the equivalent of about £3 is a joke you're moaning, if someone wants it pay for it, if not wait.

Does this have a 1 player mode at all? Not looking for a story mode, just against bots. Never played this type of game save 10 minutes on Starcraft 2. Don't want to jump in and lose before I've even had a chance to see what is going on.

Yes there are bots and they are fairly intelligent, and they are working on them constantly, they realise a lot of people will want to play with/against bots either with friends or just as practice so they are working hard to get them right.

Oh and Dota 2 and Starcraft 2 are radically different games, you may as well compare it with Counter Strike, they have about as much in common.

Well every Steam account can now download the Dota 2 'Spectator' Client which they say will become the release client over-time once they have server capacity in place.

I play it quite a lot.

Will be a lot more popular when it's released. It's the most played game on steam now and it's still in beta ;)

When is this out?

I started to play LoL but i can't help but feel that Dota 2 looks and plays better from what I've seen in the spectator mode...

Do i just buy my way into the beta or shall i hold off?

I would recommend buying the beta access. the game is missing allot of Heros and extras before its released, and these are being added at a very slow pace (its valve!), I wouldn't imagine its going to be released this year at this rate.

Its a spectacular game and worth the investment. I have clocked up 150 hours on it and feel I haven't even scratched the surface.
