Dota 2 - Steam

I keep wanting to play but often I've only got 45 minutes to spare and that game we played lasted an hour and 18 minutes.

I'll be back at the weekend though for some more. :)

Sad I still haven't gotten anything from steam, filled out the survey and everything when they sent me an email about my admission for Beta :(

Love HoN, but really want to see how this fairs against it.

The playdota draw is crap. There have been lots of winners with blatant abuse of the rules (multiple accounts).

I am fortunate enough to have been gifted a key by a friend but i have 2 friends who have been waiting for a key for ages. I would be so annoyed if i did not have a key. Tempted to create multiple account there just for a better chance at winning on the draw.

I'm getting slapped around atm, playing lina. It works well when your team is playing well but melee absolutely slaughter me. Is there an all round class I should play?

Lina has an incredibly bad attack animation so it's really hard to last hit with her.

Imo you should pick a couple of heroes from each role (support/ganker/carry) and stick to them while you learn the game - Game sense and other skills are way more important than learning individual heroes.

How do you attack friendly creeps to deny the opposition gold?

I'm right clicking on them but just end up walking towards them.

Whenever I join a game I seem to always get at least one person who lacks basic learning skills. I mean I'm on my third game but even I understand I need to level up and prevent myself from being killed =/

Also how do you forify your structures?

There's a button that looks like a shield in the bottom right of the screen.

Which is unbound by default for god knows whatever reason, but G is free, which is what I use.

Also, if you haven't rebound your inventory section then I'd do that too. ALT + Q/W/E is my top row inventory binds, then position your items so that any activation ones are on ALT + Q/W/E.

I don't bind the bottom inventory row because I rarely have more than 3 activation items.

Wow. Just realised why I was levelling up so slowly.

Switched off auto attack and started using the stop command while trying to get last hits and it's made some difference.

When you start playing the game play as a support hero and babysit others. Learning things like map awareness and positioning are far easier when you don't need to focus on last hitting everything.

Also watch streams on twitch.tv or other similar websites, watching the pro's will teach you a lot. I'm not sure if there are any good guides available for DotA2 however. I learnt most of the heroes on HoN where there were LOADS of awesome guides on the forums for each hero.

Wow! Just played a game and got the most kills for my team. :D

I just might be getting the hang of this.

Getting the most kills isn't always a good thing. If you're playing a hero who doesn't need them try and let carries get last hits in teamfights. High kills makes no difference to your rating, it's win% that shows how good you are. Although the DotA matchmaking can put you against groups of 5 when you're solo queueing which can absolutely ruin your win percentage :(

In almost every match I've had at least 1 afker/disconnecter. This is really annoying. Then some uber elite **** on your team starts telling your side you are **** and completely forgets the fact it is 3-4 vs 5.

When I first started playing I didn't get many AFKers in my team early on, but it's starting to happen more now.

You can still win 4v5 though, it just depends on the heroes on your team and how well youre playing compared to the other team.
