I got into the beta today but am a complete beginner. Anyone know of a good site to get me started or a nice video guide?

Thanks

I mentioned a site in this thread a few pages back. Would recommend that one.

I had a few games against bots last night and it's like going back in time to the original DoTA :D

Forgot how much different it was to LoL after playing LoL for so long

I've played plenty of games and yea you get ******** in all games but not as much as the 99% majority LoL has and DotA2 already has in it and the gates aren't even open yet.

It's not about the charging mechanism it's about the game play. Hon has a worse community than Lol and it started as having to pay (when it was probably even worse than it is now). But they realised to late that f2p model was the way to go. No way could Dota 2 be anything else tbh after that.

tbh if you struggled with the LOL community you haven't a hope at either Hon or Dota 2 :)

DotA2 is so much more refined than LoL. It could definitely be a retail game and I'm surprised it isn't. Even £10 would keep the kids at bay a bit.

What's this like? Steam sent me a message saying I had it this morning, I've not tried it yet though. I didn't really like HoN, I much prefer LoL. The colours seem brighter, you can see what's going on more (skills and the like).

I'll give it a go sometime since I have it, but I'm enjoying LoL so it's not high on my priorities.

I feel you are trolling so i'm just going to move on. Dota 2 still interests me and I don't want to ruin the thread.

LOL I'm not trolling. I'm the guy whose offered multiple times in this thread to lend out my two spare dota2 accounts just because this game is great with a team and I've supplied another two guys with an invite.

Trust me, this will take over LoL and the kids will come running and make the community worse than it already is due to these damn Russians which only seem to know the word 'noob'

It won't but for various reasons, but if it does all good tbh - played 2 1/2 years of LOL so can't say I haven't got my values worth ;)

I am one of them noobs and i played awful the other night was sumit like 4-20-7 it is save tto say we lost but was 3v5 at first so we did put up a fight. i have been playing LOl for a while and yes it is good but seams to be the same over and over. even tho i played really bad i didnt get any greave from the team saying Noob etc i find it a good game just hard to marster since i played LOL a long time. DOTA 2 is a good game with heroes choice etc. the only thing that is letting it down for me is the lack of map space you have, will be better if you could customize the UI so i can make it smaller and have more map space.:D

I read that this will have some kind of unique f2p system that has not been done before. Sounds interesting.

Gave Newell announced this is going to be F2P. O well I just uninstalled it, **** this **** cos I'm outta here.

Why uninstall a game because it is going ftp?

I really struggled with this. IMO the UI is too big vertically. Playing in a top lane I just felt really, really claustrophobic or something. It really unsettled me not being able to see more than 2 inches ahead of myself, and I spent half the game clicking on the UI. There wasn't any issue playing the second half of top, mid was fine, and obviously the first half of bot was too. Basically any vertical plane just felt really cramped.

This could just be me, but the autoattack kicking in when you were retreating really got on my nerves. I'd run back (maybe because of the screen height issue) and at the end of the pathing, my champ would often run back towards the creep line to autoattack one of them. Basically I either spammed the right click, or I'd end up dying.

Apart from those 2 things, I thought it was ok. I don't really think it's going to be my cup of tea, but it's certainly solid enough in it's current state.
