Double barreling

lol to quote that there shakespeare bloke

"What's in a name?"

Very true :)

I've only very briefly mentioned to my Mrs about surnames and I think she'd want to keep her surname, however I'm sure she'd be convinced if we ever did get married.

I wouldn't change mine as it's unique and distinctive. I don't know anyone, or have heard of anyone with the same surname - except some random person who was from Australia messaged me on Facebook.

Because the missus is in the film business, it makes sense for her to keep her surname for professional purposes, so we've decided that basically she'll keep her surname, but for the purposes of things addressed to us she has no problem with Mr & Mrs Lloyd for example, and any children in the future would have my name :)

Congrats btw! :p

If your lady double barrels her name and you dont wont there be issues when kids come into the equation?

The kids would probably take your surname but your wife would be the only member of the family with a stupidly long double barrelled surname?

I would imagine it'd be the opposite, I'd keep my name, wife and kids double barrel? I don't know!

I have a double barrelled first name and it is an absolute nightmare with forms etc. For important ones I use both first names, but I am never called by both names and I never introduce myself with both, so more often than not I wont use it in forms, which then gets confusing if I need to know what my name is if something crops up and I need to talk to someone on a phone etc.

I hate double barrled ness. It is a posh thing to do and I'm not posh, neither are my parents, its just annoying.

Isnt it the norm that kids take the fathers surname?

I know this situation isnt really the norm, oh and Statham-Reade sounds much much better:D

Also double barrelled surnames are a security threat. If anyone knows your kids names they have a 50% chance of being able to guess their mothers maiden name, and can then transfer all the money in their bank account to someone else's.

Double Barrel is not posh :D Quadruple barrel is!

Why is it, the world never remembered the name Johan Gambolputty De Von Ausfern Spendenschlitt Crass Crembonn Fried Digger Dangle Dongle Berstein Von Knacker Thrasher Apple Banger Horowitz Ticolensic Grander Knotti Speil-Tinkle Grandlich Grumblemeyer Spelter Wasser Kurschlich Himble Eisen Bahnwagen Guten Abend Bitte Einen Nuremburger Bratwursle Gesperten Mit Zwei Mache Luber Hund Foot Gumberaber Schonen Danke Kalbsfleisch Mittler Raucher Von Hautkopf of Ulm?

You don't need to HOWEVER if you have kids and you want them to be double barelled I think you need to change your name. I know people who weren't allowed to give their kids the double barelled name because the dad didn't take it as his name.

Stupid I know.
