I believe it would revert to Silver after the pre pay card expires, might want to wait for someone else to say this though!!

Yeahits just been one of those things where when I first signed up for LIVE I set it up monthly, and I've never been bothered to cancel it. I am going to cancel it later though!
No more annoying than having to cancel any other subscription you probably have. Sky, Setanta, telephone, mobile etc.
No companies make it easy to cancel when people quite happily pay every month as they can't be bothered.

I'm not defending them as I'm sure they will have absolute numpties working there, but they are no worse than dozens of similar companies and that is all my point is.
One look at this thread will give you the reason that they don't let you cancel without phoning up, they are raking it in from lazy and uneducated users of their services.
