Downgrade Xbox Live?

I'm going to cancel mine, £4.99 over 12 months is £60! when you can buy a 12month code for £26.98!

Cheers for the info on how to cancel.

I didn't think anyone paid it monthly! I got 13 months subs for 21.97!

Yeah :( its just been one of those things where when I first signed up for LIVE I set it up monthly, and I've never been bothered to cancel it. I am going to cancel it later though!

I signed up to xbox live on my old xbox on my mums credit card years ago. 2 years running she got charged because I'm a numpty and forgot to cancel it :o

It is a PITA but everyone does it, tried cancelling a LoveFilm subscription and they made it as difficult as possible. Had to downgrade one month because I had missed the deadline (which was against the original T&C that I signed up to) then cancel the following month. thats why I like direct debits, if somewhere is making things difficult then its two clicks on my online banking and its cancelled.

No more annoying than having to cancel any other subscription you probably have. Sky, Setanta, telephone, mobile etc.

No companies make it easy to cancel when people quite happily pay every month as they can't be bothered.

Not so, although admittedly, I can only speak from experience:

Cancelling credit card/television service – one call to customer services, bit of a wait on hold, speak to one person who tries to convince me to stay, say no, job done.

Live – call customer services, wait for ages on hold, and speak to an obvious knowledgebase monkey who logs a support call, but needs to speak to a supervisor so says that I will get a call back within the hour.
Supervisor calls the next day and I have to confirm who I am all over again, says that the credit card is removed but could guarantee that I wouldn’t be re-billed at the end of the subscription so asks that I check my bank at this time and call to update them either way!

Ninja edit: A mate of mine also cancelled his sub as I did, and that got re-billed again, good ol’ MS :p

Scort.

Can I just change the credit card details to incorrect ones? An expiry date of 12/2099 or something?

Not that I recall, it runs a check to validate the card iirc.

Scort.

I've never had a problem with the Xbox Live! customer service and yes that includes cancelling a subscription in the past.

I'm not defending them as I'm sure they will have absolute numpties working there, but they are no worse than dozens of similar companies and that is all my point is.

One look at this thread will give you the reason that they don't let you cancel without phoning up, they are raking it in from lazy and uneducated users of their services.

I didn’t think you were defending them or anything, it's just I don’t really agree with what you said about them being no worse than other companies, but going back to my original post, I can only speak from my own experience as can you – no doubt we have both heard different from friends too.

MS screwed me over with the free trial and credit card details with on the original xbox. They said it would take the 3 months to refund the money! eek.

I will hopefully be getting a prepaid card to avoid giving them my CC details. £29.99 cheapest I've seen so far for the year (£2.50 a month, that's nothing really).

Like others have said, I'm pretty sure you have to phone MS before your subsciption is up in order to cancel if they've got your CC details.

I first signed up to LIVE and selected the 1 year option then after about a year I purchased a 1 year pre paid card which runs out in feb.

Now are you guys 100% sure that when my pre paid card runs out, it won't auto renue me for a whole year?

Just would like some clarification as it seems like an expensive risk is all :D
