Download 2013

Friday for me went like this

Rob Lynch - Other folk tried to get to the HIM signing so decided to check him out. Seemed pretty decent.

Papa Roach - Hadnt seen these guys since Lovehatetragedy tour which was like 02/03. Really enjoyed them especially as I really like their newer style a lot more.

Europe - Amazing. 2nd time I saw them first time was just after they had made their comeback with the Start from the Dark album.

Walking Papers - Excellent semi acoustic set from these guys big fan of all of Duff McKagens work and this was no expection

KoRn - Not a fan but the other half is she really enjoyed it. Will admit though that Jonathan Davis was spectactular live. Didnt not expect him to be that good

3 Doors Down - Was really looking forward to these guys and felt their set was awful short (something I felt quite a lot on the 2nd stage). Otherwise they were good.

Black Stone Cherry - Absolutley amazing. Enjoyed every second of these guys. Was glad they were up against Slipknot as I had no interest in seeing them so worked out excellently for me

Saturday

Young Guns - Again someone else in our party wanted to see them so had nothing else on and went there. Felt they should have been good but the sound wasnt great for them. Maybe just me

Hardcore Superstar - A band I'll never get bored of seeing live even though the insane rain that accompanied their set.

Black Star Riders - Was looking forward to Buckcherry untill they pulled out (Hardcore+Buckcherry tour later this year though so all is not lost) but have to say thought these guys were really good. Perhaps not main stage as the crowd didnt seem overly excited for them.

Walking Papers - Full electric set this time and it confirmed my earlier opinions that I really need to get this album in my life.

Lit - So much memories from early Lit stuff for me and they were a band I never really expected to see live so was pretty gutted when they said they had to cut the set short but what they played was great.

Missed motorhead as by the time I went to get some Maiden beer to try (which is awesome) and found everyone to tell them to come see motorhead they were finishing up.

Queens of the stone age - Not a fan and I dont think they were anywhere near as good as when I saw them on the songs for the deaf tour.

Iron Maiden - Not really much more to say about these guys that wont have been said already. The spitfire was a great touch though. Were they recording the set? Seemed to be some extra cameras and of course seems strange to arrange a spitfire flyover and not film it

Sunday

Hellyeah - Pretty decent set havent heard much from them but wanted to check them out.

Went back to the Tent for a while as there was nothing on and it was cheaper to drink there ;)

Stone Sour - Another excellent performance from them. At this point I really wish slipknot would just go away and Stone Sour can become Coreys main badn.

Newsted - I was so excited for this band being a huge fan of Jason Newsted and its easily one of the highlights of the weekend. Really hope they come back and tour soon.

30 Seconds to Mars - Another band im not a fan of that the other half likes. Terrible live though.

Limp Bizkit - I did not expect these guys to be as good as they were. Could even be my favorite moment of the weekend.

Caught the end of Rammstein. Meh not my thing musically and what I saw of the stage show seemed ok but certainly not worth all the hype and sitting through 2 hours of their set to see.

Rammstein are everyone's thing once you see them, even if you don't like the music they're hilarious ;)

Black Stone Cherry are amazing. Saw them once at Wembley when they were supporting Alter Bridge and they absolutely blew me away. Real shame I couldn't make it to see them this year.

Iron Maiden were filming it for a DVD release apparently. Spoke to CEO of the company who supplied the lights and he said they had a whole extra rig because they were filming it.

EDIT:
Yes - download is a regular. We put in a huge extra rig this year for maiden's DVD shoot.

I saw Limp Bizkit at Brixton last year and have to say they were unbelievably good. They seem to get a lot **** but that show was probably one of the best I have ever been to. The energy they have on stage is incredible

For about the 100th time - I'm really annoyed I couldn't go

Seen Bizkit twice before and bith time they were awesome, as you say great atmosphere and energy on stage. I walked half way from the main stage and turned back for Rammstein... So glad i did, it was something like i have never experienced before, and probably never will again (on that scale anyway)

Other top shouts go to shikari, 5FDP, Parkway drive and Architects. Looking at 5fdp and avenged sevenfold ticket for MEN on 30th nov - all round a class weekend

16th oct going Alter Bridge at notts if anyone is on it?

Would have gone to see Alter Bridge but going to be away so can't :(

But am buying my Download 2014 tickets tomorrow :D

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS :D:D:D

According to one of the Maiden forums, Kevin Shirley (Maiden's record producer) apparently posted up a post on Facebook about the Spitfire and that the entire set was filmed and he is going to mix it :D :D I really hope that we will see a DVD release of this show. However, when Maiden last played Download in 2007 Bruce told the crowd then that they were recording it for a DVD back then but it never surfaced... (but there again most of the big acts from 2007 was streamed live over the net anyway).

Not going to consider buying tickets this early. They're not hugely cheaper than they will be in January and have no idea what the lineup is going to be. Will hang fire until they announce the headlines I think!

I'd be surprised if one isn't Metallica and not to bothered by headliners as there is almost always somebody I want to see. This year was the exception with Maiden who had nobody on opposite them.

Really disappointed I didn't try and go this year looking at the feedback. If Metallica are headlining I will be all over it. By far my favourite band.

Shikari were amazing, I can't watch the videos though because it doesn't do the sound justice. I'd love them to release a live recording of that set.
