I'm doing Download this year, first time at a metal festival (and Download) but not my first festival

Some tips would be appreciated

I plan on taking a spare tshirt, 1 vest, 1 shorts, 5 socks, 5 boxers, tent, sleeping bag, blow up mat, chair, trainers (wearing walking boots as weather doesnt look too bad) lots of alcohol

Are wellies recommended even if weather looks good?

And finally who else on here is going? I'm going to Donington park

I'd take more clothes, it's not forecast to rain but if it does it'll get muddy and your clothes will be ruined, take wellies, even if its dry the mud gets bad due to all the people walking on it.

Yup, I'm going too.

Looks like you've covered most bases. No bottles are allowed, so make sure you just take cans of beer.

Wellies are a must just in case the heavens open. :)

No GLASS, if you have spirits (JAGER!) stick it in plastic bottles.

I usually take Pot Noodles for breakfast so a camping stove and kettle for hot water is a must for me; you can't use gas anymore though, needs to be solid fuel.

Ive got wellies but its a pain in the nut sack carrying them. Plus when I was a Leeds fest a few years back it felt like my feet was rotting in them after 2 days! Do you think high back walking boots and a couple of plastic bags will hold up?

I have these - http://www.masopciones.com/files/io200809271826230.Baltoro.jpg

A friend went to Download a few years ago and took 1 white tshirt for wed - mon!

Maybe see you there ThundyCat - email in trust

Take a wide necked bottle for you to wizz in late at night. And mouthwash in lieu of a toothbrush.

May even get a wider one if possible. Past few festivals I have crapped in a bag in my tent - marginally less rank than scooping someone elses cable of a seat :(

I'm heading up on Wednesday - first time but going with a few others that have been before.
I've been recommended that lots of breakfast in a can type things are the way to go with food. Will probably take some fruit in an attempt to be healthy ish...

Are there shower/toilet blocks? Guessing there will be, but just very busy.

So excited for this year, the line up is excellent. 5th time going and 4th time RIP. its our family holiday for the year :D

You've covered the basics, just have a blast the whole weekend - whatever the weather.

Been to most of them since the late nineties but the last few years the line ups don't interest me anymore as I've seen most of them numerous times always a good weekend if the weather stays good have fun.

I would like to go for the saturday only ticket. But i don't have a car and without a car its not realy practical as there is no way to get home once the saturday ticket expires. I could take a tent but i don't think a saturday ticket works for tents.

I'd rather stay at home and listen to CD's with a nice cup of tea rather than put up with a bunch of boozed up knob jockey pillheads getting in my way, spoiling my view and generally ruining absolutely anything good about the whole shebang. Plus my toilet is clean, my bed is comfortable, possessions secure and the kitchen is about 6 strides away and stocked. And I get to save myself ££££££. True story.

I've never been to a festival - no friends.

Wish I was going this year, sadly its in the middle of my exams :( Last year was incredible though. On the barrier for Metallica and Sabbath. Unbelievable.

Are you driving? If you are I would take some sort of trolly/rugged truck to carry stuff from the car park. It's a long walk (good 45 minutes - an hour if you're in red or black camp) carrying stuff, especially if its muddy. I camped in red camp last and it was good, not too noisy, although the noise from the village goes on late into the night. If it is raining then make sure you don't camp at the bottom of a hill. Luckily last year (wash out basically) we managed to get a place at the top of the hill, the bottom looked like a lake by the end of it. Festival basics apply, by/take bog roll plenty of food etc.

Make sure you see Limp Bizkit. They're unbelievable life. Saw them at Brixton last year. One of the best gigs I've been to.

Hope some of that helps.

Didn't use the shower blocks last year but they do exist. Plenty of toilets - portaloos and outdoor urinals! Queues normally aren't too bad in the arena, can be worse in the campsite. Was quite funny last year in the campsite watching people attempt to run, for a loo that had just become free, through foot deep sticky clay mud without losing their shoes.

EDIT: @Robosapien you have no idea what you're missing out on. The atmosphere is incredible and easily worth the ticket price

Would have gone to this purely for Limp Bizkit. But alas, brother's stag do.

Rammstein are on at the same time :(

I wanted to see both but seen Bizkit twice so Rammstein it is

I have been looking for shorts this afternoon and tried a few on but seem too heavy. Finally bought some standard slim fit black shorts but got home and though "swimming shorts" I'm a genious. Normal shorts are going back and ill just take swim shorts. Light weight, easy to pack, doesn't matter if you get them wet, no need for underwear!

Looking warm but wet on BBC Weather at the moment. Hopefully it is just the odd shower rather than anything too heavy.
Got no idea which campsite I'm on, doesn't say on the ticket. Do I just improvise once I get there? :p I'm there for the full 5 nights.

As much as I'd be half interested in seeing Limp Bizkit, there is absolutely no way I'm missing Rammstein! Apart from Iron Maiden they're the band I'm most interested in! Can't wait for Motorhead and QOTSA too :)

They aren't really designed for constant wear - I think you may get some nasty rash / chaffing if you wear them for ages.
