Just a quickie. I assumed it was possible to 'download' your 360 profile to a second machine as each controller can log on to a separate profile.

I basically wanted to be able to go around a friend's house and use my profile incase I unlocked achievements etc, or so I could use my unlocked characters in games like DOA to play with. Upon trying this it seems recovering your profile from like wipes its details.

Is it not possible to link a local profile to one on live somehow?

Put your profile on a memory card, this is how Microsoft intended you to get your profile to your friends. You can recover it however without loss (atleast, I've never lost anything).

A question along this theme of profile. My Mrs is bugging the hell out of me for a HD screen downstairs. I game on a 2405 upstairs. That way her TV time doesnt affect my game time.

Now we have struck something of a deal where she gets the HD tv, I get a 2nd 360 for downstairs when she's not about. Obviously I want to use the same profile, can I just unclip the HD and move my profile on that, so I only need to get a core?

And I take it I dont need to buy another Live account for the 2nd 360?

I don't exactly want to buy another momory device just for this when it should really be as simple as entering a username and password. As for the recovery, when I tried it, it warned me that all save-game data and achievements will be lost if I recover it?

Yes, you can do this; although my brother's 360 is right next to mine (completely unplugged) it is quicker to swap the HDDs than the wires if he wants to play on my TV.

Although the HD moves fine, the pads are associated with the console itself.

I'm sure the only way is with a memory card sadly. I looked around on the xbox forum and everyone seems to say transfer using a mem card :(

So if the pads are assositaed with the console I can't take the pad around anyone else's??

I've had bother doing a HDD swap, never with a Memory Card though.
I would recommend another Premium anyway, you can save more content from Live! that way without worrying about space.

And no, you can use the same Gold account.

You can, you just press the button on top of the controller and the button on the front of the Xbox360 to find them. On the very rare occassion this doesn't work, just use a Charge and Play kit and the console and controller associate themselves too. (then unlplug C&P obviously).

This man speaks the truth, its just an annoyance to do the whole learn/teach frequency thing...I meant that if you swap the HDD out and take the pad with you (say downstairs) then you'll turn the HDD-less 360 on.
