Dr Colorchip Results Thread:

Had a quick play with my set this morning, found it was good at small scratches but didn't cover up a few large chips very well, i'll put down a few more layers and see how it turns out.

Anyone else found they have to rub the Step 2 solution pretty hard to get it to blend into your paintwork?

I had a quick go today after claying. Similar results to Duke really, mainly because of the silver colour - I'd imagine it would work ok on a darker colour.

The colour match was actually better than the Renault touch up paint I've got, it covers light scratches and small paint chips well, but anything deeper and its going to take several layers and I'm not sure how that will look.

I've only had a quick go today, I'm doing it again tomorrow or monday so I'll get some before and after pics up.

Just to note guys, deeper stone chips really will take time. Don't expect on one or two passes for it to clear if they're that deep. Just keep building the layers up until they're level with the original paint. Glad to see people are getting along with it ok though :)

Did a bit more this morning but started to cloud over so had to stop. The main front chip by the grille is looking much better now and also the smaller chips around it. Going to put on another layer after the F1 this afternoon and see how it goes from there. I've decided to concentrate on the left side of the grille area where the main chip is, and then begin the right side front on Monday/next weekend.

Done the base coat on mine (had extra container inside with some, for silver cars). Will finish it after the F1 qualifying :)

One of my kits has a bottle of "base" and one doesn't

can't see a reference to it on instructions

Does anyone have a panther black ford? I've bought this kit and have now sold my ford and bought an audi, so just to make you aware i'll be posting my kit for sale in MM as soon as i get it, it's the full kit. Keep an eye out.

er. doubt it would be allowed in MM

I might take this off you or will try to get some interest on the ST forums when I eventually get my kit and show the results off.

Well I havent used mine and I'm not sure I will be, as I'm not particularly impressed with what i've received. Essentially what they sent was a bottle marked with my colour code and a bottle marked silver and a note saying 'we couldnt match your colour code properly, so here's what we managed to make and a bottle of silver, you can mix them as you see fit'. I thought I was paying someone else to do the mixing!

That doesn't sound very good, what was the colour you ordered?

Was that for the 106 QS?

got my mine today (damn internal mail, looks like it came Friday).

What do you guys use before applying, would white spirit be safe to clean up with?

Did you get a bit of paper inside? Mine had a note saying they recommend using the base coat first on silver cars, else it may look dull when dry.

nope, so I use the base in the same fashion as the main paint and then the colour over that ?

Don't suppose anyone got one of these in Reflex Silver for a VW? I have one last small scratch to get out which won't come out without a respray. Also, how is it applied? Elbow grease or do you need a rotary polisher and the like?
