Dr Colorchip Results Thread:

Got to be honest Dukes post has pretty much sold it for me. Similar colour and my scratches are much less noticable than those so should get a 99% finish on them

On silver it's fine for small scratches like that, I've lost 2 on the bonnet a large patch of small stone marks on the front bumper, my wing mirrors and one on the roof. But what I've found is that because of the lighter colour, the ones that show up darker rather than lighter are still visible afterwards.

That was before, I haven't got an after pic but the bigger ones are still visible - just lighter in colour. And the very small ones have mostly gone.

The bit of paper says:

Silver Paint Color Notice

We've included a white base color you may consider using on larger chips. We discovered if a white base paint is applied and removed per normal application procedures, the silver tends to stand out better and look less dull when applied over the top. Wait 30 minutes or more to apply silver over the top of the white, and remove as normal. This is only an option; feel free to use only the silver paint, or try both methods to see which looks better.

Going to continue with another treatment or two tomorrow so will post pics if the light is OK.

Interesting, never really watched this thread or any such threads but seeing the pictures got me interested.....well a bit :D

I managed, through imense talent at using one of those clay bars........which had a bit of grit in it (!) to put a nice swirly scratch on the door of my wifes lovely new A4. The car is silver and looking at these pictures it looks like this product may deal with it? I have tried to polish it out and use Scratch X to no avail, is this the product I need do you think?

Sorry for not keeping up, only read the odd thread so please make these more interesting next time. "Dr Colourchip and new GT3" or "Dr Colourchip is spilt over Megan Fox" might work ;)

been doing just about every-friggin-thing to the car today including a proper polish/wax before winter kicks in so gave it a go...

first up i gave her a quick 2 bucket wash along with a quick claying. then i could try this muther. generally its easy to get into, you learn quickly with this stuff.

heres the results (please note this was a quick go over, you'd get better results if you built the layers up gradually etc):

couple of tips:

use it lightly obviously, but proper lightly else its harder to get the excess off.

smudge the paint straight away within seconds, even if the scratches you covering are close together, dab one then smudge, dab the next one and so on...

make sure that scratch your currently dabbing with the brush isn't a doghair  :o

some thoughts:

comparing it to some of the Halfords chip touch ups i have done before, the Dr Colorchip is MILES better. the colour match was spot on and the whole finish is far more blended and professional.

it won't make it look anywhere near new again and unless your VERY dedicated (and boring :p ) light scratches/chips can still be seen after 2/3 coats. it merely makes them harder to see. only a couple of very light scratches was i able to make completely dissappear.

the paint is going to last a hell of a lot longer than the blending solution!

so yeah, i'm sure for someone very dedicated superb results could be had, not for me though.

its still a great product and far outweights the halfords crap anyway so definitely worth it :)

Hmm, have you tried with and without the base coat? I might email them and ask for some!
I used it for the main chip by the front grille but not for all the other smaller ones (scratches and small chips). Doesn't seem to make a difference on them but probably notice on a large chip.

Done a bit today on my car, the stuff is good but its going to take a while to get the whole of my front bumper done, Gonna need to get some more gloves too as the one i'm using is covered after doing about 1/4 of my front bumper today!

tried it on the Astra too, same results, paint comes out when you use sealant, tried leaving it up to 40 mins

unless I am doing something wrong then this stuff is next to useless

must be doing it wrong mine goes in fine, whack it on with the dabby brush thing smear straight away and then leave for couple of mins. up to 15 though if doing lots over a big area, and then get the sealant on the microfiber and rub gently and it slowly comes out. Not rubbing too hard are you rotty?

You're probably rubbing too hard. You're not supposed to put any pressure on the cloth, just keep running it across the area and let the solution do the work lifting off the excess. It takes ages but it works.
