dr who easter special!

watching it on the iplayer now, not bad so far, definitely a pitch black vibe to it.

Looking forward to Moffat taking over, he really has wrote the best episodes so far. Even though Doctor Who drowns in its own cheese factor his stories are always entertaining.

Was it just me or did the quality of the broadcast look really good tonight? Far better than freeview normally looks imo.

As for the episode, 6/10. Not too bad.

Downscalled HD for the standard definition broadcast, so that will have helped :). First time a Doctor Who episode has been in HD I think? Maybe one of the specials had been as well, I can't remember exactly.

Anywho, I thoroughly enjoyed the episode :). Didn't know who Michelle Ryan was until last night. Do now though ;).

she was the whiny girl from eastenders who was in the papers a few years ago for wanting to commit suicide because her life was so bad

fame+money yes life must be hard.......

not watched Dr Who for years, saw the trailer for this one and it looked so amateurish and stupid, loads of folks seem to like it though

I find this. I hate it really and cannot bring myself to like it. Compared to any decent American sci-fi shows, it sucks in terms of production values and script writing so I honestly wonder why they bother.

Amazes me how all the earths military as far as dr who is concerned use g36's and m4 carbines. Even in the future in that big brother episode a few seasons back, g36's all round against the daleks.

I beleive UNIT is the torchwood anti alien type guys and not the military.

dr who isnt really supoeed to be a serios sci-fi show anymore though is it , its suposed to be "family entertainment" someone the kids + parents can watch together.

some of the more serious episodes were pretty good though

Indeed, for the most part it wasn't intended with those that understand the complex plots of Sci Fi shows such as BSG, Lost and Heroes as examples.

It'll never be a show that takes it seriously, there have been some really entertaining episodes, Blink, Silence In The Library/Forest Of The Dead/The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances (All written by Moffat coincidently) which were all creepy and a nice play on common fears which was great storytelling imo.

But theres been some damn atrocious episodes that just make you want to cringe *cough* Peter Kay *cough*. Definitely a show where you have to switch your brain off to appreicate it.

Oh and let's not get started on torchwood...

Thought it was a good episode, I wonder who'll be knocking four times though...

My money is on the Masters wife who picked up the ring when the Master was bumped off....bound to be wrong.....here come the drums :)

Exactly why I can't wait for Moffat to take over the reigns - shame David T won't be the Doctor when he starts as main writer though.

The Master returning would be good, John Simm played him brilliantly.

I'd love a follow up on the Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit episodes though at least in some form or another.

They will string it out until the Christmas / New Year episodes, whoever comes back will 'kill' the doctor and then the regeneration begins.

Shame to see David T leaving though....

This episode is such a rip off of Stephen Kings The Langoliers.
With a touch of the Replicators from Stargate
Yes, I thought of the Langoliers too... and the swarming metallic things looked like the sentinels from the Matrix.

I quite liked Michelle Ryan - probably cause she's fit more than anything else - but I couldn't stand the head of the UNIT (Capt. Magambo...?). She was annoying beyond belief and was ugly to boot! Lee Evans overacted massively, but that was to be expected from him really.
