Dragon Age 2 - Official Thread

Can anyone explain why the graphics are so terrible in the demo?

I thought they were alright, better than the first game on the PS3 anyway. There was a bit of jerkiness here and there though.

I'm just back from playing the demo, and personally I love where they've taken the game. Combat is a lot more involved and fast paced this time around. No more clicking auto attack and yawning inbetween your abilities cooling down. I played through the demo as a rogue, and disappearing in a puff of smoke and reappearing behind them to backstab was pretty awesome, I can't wait to see what all the other skills and abilities do. I got bored of the original game's combat about half way through, but I can see myself liking this game's right until the end. I did find it a tad easy though, but the demo's locked to normal difficulty so that'll be easily enough rectified in the full game.

I'm not one for really replaying stuff, but for some reason I really want to replay the demo as a warrior and a mage to play with those classes haha.

Not 100% sure I like the way they've ripped the dialogue wheel out of Mass Effect, the old way of selecting dialogue worked fine IMO.

Disappointed they locked out the character customisation in the demo, but what can you do.

Graphics I thought were better than the first game, I like the new art style a lot better than the first game and Captain Janeway's back with a brand new makeover :D

Definately a day one purchase for me. March 11th can't come quick enough.

I liked the demo but it felt a bit A,a,a,a,a,a,a,a. I guess that will improve once you get more abilities though.

I love that at the end of the demo when it says march 11th the subtitles translation says March 8th :D

Yeah I noticed that mistake too :D

I personally prefer pressing X to attack each time though, rather than pressing X once, and sitting there doing nothing while it auto attacked in the first game :p

Yeah I agree, real time combat will always feel more satisfying than that half D&D stuff they had in the first. Made it very frustrating to use abilities when your character had to finish a complete animation before doing it.

Really dissapointed with the demo tbh. Its just mash A constantly for 15 mins then it ends.. I really hope the full game is better...

Interesting that on consoles you have to press A for each attack, yet on the PC version auto attack is enabled, so you click on an enemy once and your character will attack continuously until you use an ability.

Much prefer it with auto attack.

If it means anything, and a dupe from the pc thread!
The demo is the same as the 360 demo i played at eurogamer in Sept 2010, so i imagine the console version will be more polished than the demo we got.

Im interested in seeing how the decisions carry over from Origins and Awakening, might have a quick blast on origins just to finish off some of the other classes / races i hadnt had a character for in the starting area.
Dont think i ever bothered with an dalish or city or common dwarf!
Noble dwarf was me first one which i finished totally with everything!
Then followed by mage and rogue which are part way through !

Having played the demo, i cant see what all the fuss is about ? the dialogue was terrible, almost cheap sounding, the game play was just repetitive and boring to me, was the first that bad ?

To be honest if I had only played one of the origins in the first game I would have thought that was poor as well. RPGs only get interesting after a few hours imo.

Yeah but he's right, if you just played the origins story (not the origins game, just the intro story) you wouldn't think it was great.

I struggle to think of any RPG that would play well as a demo. The whole point of the genre is character development and story.

The Mass Effect 2 approach to the PS3 demo of having an hours gameplay of different sections was quite good. Sold the game to me.

Even though ME2 is barely an RPG.

Yeah I agree, that's why most don't usually bother. Mass Effect 2 was the first bioware demo I played I think, and that was months after release.

What I was trying to say was just that you shouldn't judge an entire game based on a short demo, especially an RPG.

I enjoyed the demo and will be buying DA2 on release. I pre-ordered a few months ago mainly because I have really enjoyed every bioware game I have played (BG, NWN, KOTOR, Jade Empire and Mass Effect). If the game isn't great, it wont be the end of the world though.

Same here.... just played the demo and it was almost cringe worthy. Woeful dialogue and awful audio and was just a button bashing game from the demo...

Sure there is more to it then this, but compared to Mass Effect II this is not a game I think I'd enjoy. give this one a miss...

Played it on the PS3, maybe not given it enough time? should I expect something more later on? Can't see what the fuss is about either..

i thought mass effect was great, havent played 2 and im not paying full price for a year old game either, i was hoping i guess, for something like oblivion.
