Dragon's den rant

My old housemate used to be/still is the runner on Dragons Den and because he used to talk about it every single second and make us watch the rough copies 2months before it used to air I just can't watch it anymore.

Seriously.....!

Why, what's wrong with that

We're talking about Americans here. You can't expect them to make that sort of fine distinction.

:)

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for narration but it seems like a lot of the time in Dragons' Den it seems to be there just to fill time as it is a waste of it. They try to build suspense by having the long breaks with music between people talking but totally ruin the suspense when the narrator tells you exactly what is about to happen.

This really annoys me too, most of the show is just filler now between the narrator and montages of things we're just about to see. I can't give the show my full attention any more because it's so drawn out.

I'm fairly sure all the filler is for channels with adverts, but why should a BBC show do that? If we're going to have to sit through so much dross, why not just have adverts on that channel too?

To be honest it's probably partially because they know it's a good show and the longer they can make it the longer you're stuck on their channel.

I like the show but I find that it just gets worse every series. Few things I hate about it:

- The narrator is dull, he makes me fall asleep.
- I hate the way they edit it to show the dragons facial expressions when the pitcher says something even slightly obscure. You can almost predict it.
- And what is up with the heat wave intro this series, it's ****. Every episode I skip 5 mins in as it wastes time.

There's a funny sketch here:

Evan Davis isn't it? He's been doing economic pieces for the BBC for a long time now, I think he's pretty good, but his talents are totally wasted on that show, anyone could do the job he has there.

probably pays him well though....

looks like ridiculously easy money!

You can add Richard Farleigh to the "bring back" list. Top bloke. Always impeccably courteous, even in the face of manifest stupidity, and always quick to provide constructive criticism.

Plus, he completely dominated Peter Jones. :D

Oh yeah I forgot about him he was really good too probably better than Simon Woodroffe but not Dougie :D

Get rid of Deborah Meaden, James Caan and bring back Doug Richard and Simon Woodroffe.

Still a good show but the 1st series had the best line-up of dragons by far.

Aye, I was glad to see the back of failed-businesswoman Rachel Elnaugh but I've come to the conclusion that Deborah Meaden is just as annoying. I also find it interesting that her business credentials are somewhat dubious. She only made her fortune because her parents gave her a job at the Cornish holiday resort that they'd built up over 20+ years, and then handed her the reins when they retired. Her introduction on the show just says that she made her fortune in tourism... well anyone can do that when your parents have done all the hard work and you just come along and sell the business. Gah, she annoys me!

I like James. He's the only one who actually invests in business outside the den, and clearly knows his stuff. I would listen to his advice over the others. Especially Mr 'I want to be a TV personality at any cost' Jones.

Was watching a couple of episodes over the weekend and it would interest me to actually see how many of these investments actually make it past the due diligence stage!

I would say 90% of the people walking though that door want an investment from Peter, next would be Theo with all his connections and the rest are there to make up numbers IMO.

It does need a bit of a shakeup as far as format goes but I think it's a vanilla program and you can pour sprinkles or stick a wafer in but it'll still be the same underneath!
