Drawing

Those guys at school obviously had a head start in terms of talent, though I'd bet good money that they spent a lot of time drawing, drawing and drawing some more.
I used to be one of those guys and I can testify that if you don't use it, you lose it :)

I'd agree with this. As a kid I was always drawing and painting. I did well in Art at school. When I was in hospital for a long time and the school at the hospital didn't have an Art teacher, my art teacher came in the evenings until they got one in.

I now never draw or paint very much and if I try I seem to have lost all the talent I once seemed to have. I always think 'I'll get back into it', but get put off when I try and it isn't natural or easy for me any more.

Has anyone here ever attended any courses on learning to draw, I like drawing, the thing is I am pretty bad at it and would like to learn, is drawing something your either good or bad or can you learn to do it?

The local college has a learn to draw course for £80 has anyone attended anything like this or taught themselves to draw?

I read this whole OP with 'draw' as in, to draw your pistol. It sounds way better when you imagine some sort of Clint Eastwood training college.

It's exactly the same for me.
I guess the only answer is to accept that you're out of shape and you're just gonna have to put in the time to get back to where you were.
It is frustrating as **** though, I'll admit...

I think practice is key. You just need to grab yourself a sketchbook and some pencils and go at it. Learning some basic techniques will make a difference and speed things up, but just draw a lot. I think it's important to have a creative outlet, even if you suck at first.

I needed to draw for parts of my Uni. degree. I was and always have been terrible. I'm of the impression that with art, you've either got it or you haven't. And if you haven't, it'll take you a very long time to get it.

Someone can probably prove me wrong, however.

It's a skill.

Any skill with enough practice you can achieve mastery.

Depends how hard you want to go though. I started guitar at 21 and took over a couple friends who had been playing 7-10years in around 3 because I grafted like crazy. "Talent" is a ******** word and misleads people that things only come about naturally, I laugh the most when I hear it used about singing. Yeah because genetically I came out my mothers womb with great pitch and vocal control... some people can start off better such as in fitness due to genetics but that is different entirely. A good book for you might be the talent code by daniel coyle which explains it further.

You want to learn to draw, go for it OP.

It's a myth, no one is naturally skilled at any hobby, they become good through practice.

Look at how unrealistic art from the medieval period is compared to now, experience gained over time and new techniques that have been developed have greatly enhanced the quality of artwork produced over that time period. It is a clear demonstration that people don't just "have it". Just as no one is born knowing how to program a computer or write a novel.

Hunger. How bad do you want it. Something Andy Murray lacked today.
