Dredd trailer

Saw it this afternoon. Excellent film.

It's pretty graphic in places, which until I looked at the listings for the showtimes didn't know it was an 18 certificate, so it pleased me that it was because it makes a change from the usual implied violence in films to get a wider audience. The acting was decent, the story ok too.

The length of the film was good, no filler (unless you consider the slow-mo parts unnecessary, I didn't) or pointless backstory, straight into the action. :D

The soundtrack was immense, the music and sound effects particularly, the best I've heard in a long while. One particular sequence = OMG

The 3D. Meh. Only the opening and closing credits were "nice", the rest I could have lived without and didn't add anything to the film, but then I hate 3D anyway and wish it would die (old git), but since the cinema is only showing it in 3D I didn't have a choice.

In the Empire podcast, their reviewer who gave it 3/5 says in retrospect and after seeing it again he should probably have given it a 4/5.

100% so far on rotten tomatoes. Looking at most of the reviews it looks like a throwback to all the mid 80's action films where you loose count of the dead bad guys. Just my cup of tea. :D

Some of the soundtrack can be heard on youtube. Put some links below but the track names might be spoilers..? Best soundtrack/score since Fight Club for me.

Yeah, I can see that, but just without the cheese and better SFX :D

Bloody and with great action, would have loved it to have had more scope city wise but obviously not possible with the budget. Great throwback to the 80s :)

loved it! brilliant soundtrack,
great 80s feel to it like said. the atmosphere reminded me of escape from new york (one of my all time faves)

the slow mo scenes were class, only time you appreciated the 3D
straight to the story, no messing

i love all that megacity 1 stuff, would liked to have seen more of it

I loved 2000AD as a kid back in the 70`s,how true to the character of Dredd is the film?

Not that it matters really as i`ll probably end up seeing this tomorrow! :D

Apples and oranges, two very different films, dig Stallone, dig Urban. (thats a like)

What i did get though is the cross over. You see if crime is the disease, stallone got in there first nearly 30 years ago, urban and this film picks up that exact vibe reskinned in a judges mask and a kick ass bike over blackout aviators and the spithy lincoln.

Chances are there's a few that have seen Cobra, and maybe they were thinking from the early scene with the first hostage the same as me.

Replace the slashers with the mama's and you're good to go.

Go's for about the next hour of something quite enjoyable...lots of violence, but thats the world they set, those that wanted dirty dredd got it, the modern action quirks are all present and correct, 3d works well with the depth of what is basicaly a corridor shooter giving cover shots and bounce outs added effect. Maybe the slow'mo scenes might have been a little overdone, showing the 3d's for sure, personaly i was allowing it because it broke up the film, but id imagine not to everybodys taste, i could see it being a ruiner for some if you either don't fly with the 3d or got bored of seeing them.

Close it by saying it worked well, definatley created a world and mega city 1 you can believe in, and if they go back, it will be better. Another crappy reference would be this is very much the robocop 2, expect more the original, could well see them going back with origin and digging it out a bit. A lot of people will like this dredd im sure, makes some sense.

/7

Anyone else see the Chopper graffiti in the elevator shaft, got a big smile out of me :D

Also saw another bit of graffiti reading Kenny Who? I swear this is a reference to a previous Dredd storyline. EDIT: I was right http://www.2000adonline.com/books/judge_dredd_art_of_kenny_who.php :D

Stayed faithful to the comic a fair bit, Andersen was a pleasant surprise, expected her to be annoying but she kicked ass.

Nice, sign me up for this, though I was already hooked once I'd seen the trailer!

Confirmed as No.1 at the weekend box office in the UK.

Thats great news and the positive word of mouth should hopefully only improve its takings in the coming week........certainly a cult classic.

Its is still 100% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes after 33 reviews.
