Dressing your age.

Whilst i do think you should 'wear what you want'. IF you wear jeans/trousers with the waist hanging below your ass, i shall bow down and pray to the demi gods to descend upon thee with great vengence and furrrrious anger...and remove your ass entirely.
After all if you aint gonna use it for holding your trousers up....then you don't need it.
Simples. Glad i could help. Invoice is in the post! :)

Carry on. ;)

I was thinking about this the other day, and find that I wear shoes most days now rather than trainers. Black for work, and Tan for other times.
Mostly at home now its tan shoes, jeans, tan belt and polo.
Just sorta feels right..

Brown shoes, brown belt, well fitted jeans and polos is timeless imo.

Wear whatever you like. I think as I have become older my range of clothes has broadened meaning I can dress appropriately/inappropriately for the occasion at will.

I can't think of anything more pretentious than fashion, except maybe Kayne West, and only because Kayne West while being an insufferable arse, is also involved in fashion.

How far can you chaps roll your sleeves up then?

I'm don't have massive arms, but I can't roll a long-sleeved shirt up to the same sleeve length as a short-sleeved shirt...

They don't need to be that short. Just turn the cuffs back three times (twice if the sleeves are narrow).

Job done.

Having recently gone into my 40's I must say that wearing blue jeans over 40 just looks so bad - Jeremy Clarkson being a good example.

I also had the same thoughts recently and after a conversation with my dad about it. My dad said i should shop at phat face and superdry but then i said i would just look like him which depressed me a bit.

Basically i always worn tshirts and jeans and skater shoes.

I bought a first casual shirt with a collar and some tightish chinos from crew clothing. It is a bit more smart. But i won't stop wearing my supra shoes or tshirts around the house. I think the main thing is that not to wear XL tshirts as they look scruffy, well for me.

I just don't go out that much to justify completely redoing my whole wardrobe, i do dress smart to work. There are some old guys that wear tshirts casually. I think its more if i go to a restaurant or on a date that i should dress more smartly but ive never been much for gelling my hair and wearing designer clothes and thinking i am cool etc. so i don't think that is ever going to change, its just not who i am.

Ill buy some more casual shirts and maybe some more less baggy trousers but can't see me wearing work shoes casually. IVe been considering some boots or something like that. I grew up in SA near the beach where all the old guys wear tshirts and sandles when they go out and that is difficult to change now that i live in london. My sisters husband is the same, he is like 40 and dresses like surfer and looks out of place in london when he goes out.

Wear what you want. Don't let society, or your perception of those around you, dictate what you should or shouldn't be wearing.

I whole heartedly agree, wear whatever you feel comfortable in and do not give a monkies for what others think.

As others have said, wear what you want to wear or feel comfortable in. I'm 34 and still pick up some things from Topman/H&M and slim fit jeans from Levi. You might find your taste changes as you get older (I wear desert boots now over my old All Stars usually, for example) rather than just waking up one day and thinking "****, I'm 30! I'd best start wearing Farah trousers with brogues and a sensible shirt".

I dress like I did when I was in my teenage years, I don't give a crap.

I live in rough area anyway so best not to stand out, just blend in with the locals in my jeans , trainers and tshirts.
if people judge me I don't care they don't know me and their opinion matters very little to me.

however when you see 30-40year old guys wearing tracksuits etc as casual wear.... just looks ridiculous fashion in nottingham always makes me laugh when I see old friends in photos.
it's like tracksuit heaven down there in the rough areas at least up north everyone is wearing jeans.

Maybe when I hit my 40s I'll start doing the smart casual thing

I'm 23 so technically of the era of hoodys . Out of work I where exclusively tracksuits and trainers . I find it far more comftable as most of my social time is spent in house with friends and family or at the desk . It's a bit of a bugger when you see clients out of work mind and you know There going to recognise you . It dosnt paint a good picture for the company really even though it shouldn't have any bearing
