Drink Driving

For starters, a skid pan is a couple hundred meters wide. The average b-road is just 3 to 4 meters wide. Pretty much defines the phrase "margin of error" ;)

Use the skid rig on a set lane width then, or go to a test centre that has a dedicated skid zone, such as the Prodrive Test track in Kenilworth with there mix surfaces with water spray, cobbled stone and the painted section will help quite a bit way before you even get on a public road.

I did some skid control stuff there in a 330d for my 21st birthday and was pretty useful.

I've been there as well and it was great - real insight into driving on different surfaces.

You can see the skid sections at the north edge, and the long thin section is about the same width as a road. :)

Drink drivers should be locked up. There's no excuse for it. You're putting so much at risk, it's a disgraceful thing to do

SA has a large culture of acceptable drink driving. Driving the 60-80K's to J'berg, drinking the equivalent of 6 or 7 pints then driving home is common place. I think they assumer that everybody else on the road is hammered as well so whats the difference. Although it is classed as illegal over here, the chances of getting stopped by the police at night are slim (it's deemed too dangerous for a single squad car to stop a car at night in the middle of nowhere, for the policeman that is) and even if you are stopped, a swift bribe will usually see them on their way.

Wether more can or should be done to combat drink driving in the U.K is debateable, however I take comfort in the fact that if some idiot does get stopped by Police and is over the limit, they will at least lose their licence.

I'd say that you should never drink and drive, if you are stupid enough to, then you deserve what you get imo. Unfortunately it's other people that tend to suffer.

Hear hear!

If you are driving, no need for alchohol to even touch your lips. Whats the point in just having "the one"? There isn't, except for you to "enjoy" the drink.

For the sake of replacing that enjoyment with a coke/j20/water/orange juice and not having any alcohol in your system, I think it's worth it!
