Drinking the laxative drink before a colonoscopy...

I was in the UC club as well, drugs didn't work so ended up loosing the colon.
It's all good with my J-Pouch though :)

Same as me mate

Still can't believe I went through all that

If anyone here is going through something similar and wants to chat, then just send me a trust message :). A few people on here really helped me through it when I had it tough

Now what I take is this pro biotic drink called VSL#3, it's free on NHS in Wales. If I do get a case of pochitis, then ciprofloxacin sorted it out within a day or so, takes about a week to feel normal again. Metranidazole really didn't agree with me at all, made me way worse.

I've been on Metronidazole for about 5 or 6 years for pouchitis, half a tablet a day keeps it in check, nothing else worked.

I've had to drink this twice now, not exactly lovely...

However, you can put a splash of Orange Swuash in to numb the taste slightely

Well I've now had the colonoscopy, all went well apart from I didn't get enough sedative so didn't have that 'high' feeling that I love :D.

I've got moderate to severe left-sided colitis with some mild colitis the rest of the way round, not too bad all in all but there may be talk of Azathioprine on my follow up appointment as Asacol does nothing.

I have a colonoscopy every 2 years as I am on a screening program for cancer.
Nurse missed the vein once with the sedative and they were frightened to give me any more, that right hand bend at the top really hurts.
I used to watch the screen and take an interest, but after I was shown the camera light poking out like an alien just below my ribs  my eyes stay shut now.

Those laxatives are nothing. Wait and see if your doctor signs you up for a barium meal test. Then you will have my sympathy. It's like drinking liquified lead.

I've had that and didn't think it was as bad as the kleen prep.

It's the really thick creamy stuff that smells like wallpaper paste?

He's a bit **** in my experience, seems to be steroids, steroids, steroids with him although I suppose there's not an awful lot out there for UC that actually works consistently from person to person. I've not been taking any medication now for over a year as Asacol only made me worse and steroids aren't a long term option, I didn't want to take azathioprine either as I didn't like the sound of the side effects.

Please don't be afraid to try Azathioprine... After a small bowel re section just under 2 years ago and losing approx 3 feet of my small intestine I got moved to Azathioprine a year or so ago along with infliximab infusions (I was diagnosed with Crohn's back in 1994).. side effects are minimal. Don't refuse the treatment or at least give it ago if there is a chance its going to help.
