Apologies if this should be in Software, not here, but this seemed more appropriate.

Just re-installed the PC and am now looking to create disk images of it in it's current form. Can anyone reccomend a good, freeware/shareware drive imaging utility? Ideally, it'd be reliable, restorable from a boot disk and happily span the burn across multiple DVDs.

Found several options on Google, but would prefer to use a recommended package before comitting my data to it........

Ghost is the usual option but I have a feeling that one of the drive manufacturers has something similar for free but it may only do drive to drive.

Personally I don't bother, anything that needs configured is stashed on the backup HDD so just gets restored from there. I can however take two days to reinstall everything without the wife, kids, gineau pigs etc complaining :D

i would use ghost or true image

but there not free :/

1 tip for ghost is make sure you do a restore from partition to selected partition. as if you don't do it that way then it merges the partition on the same drive

making you lose all data on a backed up partition
