Driver settings for GSync

Setting the monitor 144Hz and then limiting the framerate to 120-135 depending on taste with G-SYNC on isn't a bad thing to do - depending on game and setup it can produce the lowest input latency while removing tearing.

I've got a feeling the problem the OP is having is that either the games in question aren't going into fullscreen mode properly for some reason or they use "fake" fullscreen modes like borderless window mode which don't work with the normal G-SYNC settings.

You _can_ use the window and fullscreen G-SYNC setting to work around this but it can cause compatibility issues if left enabled with some desktop stuff.

EDIT: Reading up on D3 there are a lot of people who have problems with G-SYNC and the game - the solution for most seems to be to enable vsync in D3 itself and select native resolution and a refresh that is a multiple of 60Hz i.e. 120Hz in the game and then in the nVidia drivers under Manage 3D Settings->Program Settings find the profile for D3 and change the Preferred refresh rate setting to application controlled - apparently 144Hz + G-SYNC does not work for most people in the game.

In game turn VSYNC ON and select a resolution with 120Hz refresh rate.

I leave it on windowed all the time, I've not had any problems with anything on desktop, any ideas what is affected?

If you use a mixture of programs that use hardware accelerated surfaces (i.e. browser and a media player) you end up with some windows randomly disappearing or not rendering correctly and sometimes what appears to be the foreground window actually isn't and your mouse input registers on the window that appears to be behind it, etc.

Not sure if its an issue in Windows 10 or not though.

EDIT: Also if you are using the latest drivers not sure if its still a problem on those (I assume it is as the issues are fundamental to Windows 7 and 8 but might have been fixed in 10 with the changes to WDDM, etc.) - as I'm on a couple of versions back due to being the best currently for my setups.

Ok, I'm a new g-sync user.. As in only rec'd my XB270HU g-sync monitor yesterday.

I found the same thing as the OP, as in some games seemed to run better with vsync on, in game.

Read this post, and yep there's a lot of condtradicting info out there.

Half of you here say turn off vsync in game and the other half say turn it on. ?????????

I do have the 'show g-sync enabled' checked in the driver cp menu, and the monitor puts up a little grey box in the top right corner during gameplay showing that g-sync is enabled... at least it gives me some comfort, til i find my footing.

At least it shows its actually working, rather than being defeated by having vsync on.

Ensure that your games are never able to run faster than your monitors refresh rate.

The best way to achieve this, is by having graphic settings high enough that the card can't push the frames faster than your refresh rate.

If the game is hitting your refresh rate with everything maxed, then use a frame limiter to sit a frame or 2 below refresh rate.

Have Gsync enabled in nvidia cp. Vsync set to application controlled. Switch Vsync off in game, and keep frame rate as unlimited in game if you have the option.

Where is this option in the Nvidia control panel bud?

I've got the rog swift. Since the little red light underneath 'bug' is still on pretty much all the time now it's a fairly useless indicator of Gsync being on or not. Would like to give this option you mention a try....

Edit - just found it! If anyone's interested when you go to the the "set up Gsync" option on the left, the menu options along the top change, and under "display" there's a "G-Sync indicator" option. :)

For me it's a fairly big intrusive 'label' that appears on the top left side/ quarter of the screen. Far too intrusive and annoying, so would only ever use for testing.

Disable that setting, you shouldn't need it as your monitor power light should be red when in Gsync mode and white when not.

Press the little joystick button on the Swift and it'll tell you refresh rate and current Gsync status.

Assuming i have the ROG Swift do we? :p

Nope, i have the XB270HU, and its a blue LED all day long. So the grey box in the top left is peace of mind that i've got it correctly working in that game.
