Ive just recently started riding my bike again and i prefer riding on the roads, its not until you ride a bike that you realise just how vunerable you are and just how little regard drivers have for you. Today im riding along and move out slightly to go around some road works when a car comes screaming past within about a foot of me so i voice my displeasure at him and sent a few gestures his way. He pulls over so i speak to him and he says "you were all over the road" to which i replied" what do you think i was going to ride through the ***** road works" (there were a lot of other choice words from me too) I have just as much right to use as much of the road as he has. Im sure some drivers think that cyclist should just ride along in the gutter and ride through every drain and pothole..............rant over.

You don't pay road tax nor do you pay insurance, therefore you have less rights to be on the road!

If thats the case then you as a pedestrian have no right to cross a road as you have no insurance and pay no road tax. I own a car so i do pay road tax and i do pay insurance :D

I don't mind cyclists normally since I used to cycle a lot, so I give them a lot of room etc when passing. However, what is starting to really **** me off is groups of cyclists riding abreast of each other rather than in line and hogging the entire road, preventing me from overtaking. Obviously it's not really a problem in town etc because they know better, but down country lanes they seem to think taking up the whole road is an acceptable practice. They always seem to be in their own little world as well, and thus unable to notice that I'm behind them wanting to get past...

I would have no problem at all having to pay a road tax for cyclist or indeed having to pay insurance after all i use the road (Infact i think its something that should be added to your car insurance and im sure it wouldnt cost much either), the problem tho' is that drivers attitudes would still not change towards cyclists.

As a driver, Cyclists don't bother me at all, generally just bounce right off. Bloody Horse-Riders on the other hand...

I know the feeling.

Road users have absolute no respect for us on bikes. Yet they are well happy to swear they're heads of and scream at a Lorry that goes past close. Its no different in my eyes.

What makes it worse is that your face with the choice of risking being knocked off in the road, or atleast a lot of stress....
OR being moaned at by a police officer for riding along a empty footpath.

Certain cyclists can't ride in a straight line and get in the way. Infact a rather large proportion are like that, they ride dangerously and shouldn't be on the road as they are a risk to themselves and other road users.

Not all cyclists are like that obviously, some can actually ride in a straight line and pay attention to their surroundings.

You can't win on a cycle ,get killed on the road or told off on the pavement ,I choose the pavement and turn a deaf ear to the "PAVEMENT" shouts !
I read somewhere that its the 8th most dangerous activity for fatalities

At least if you have an accident on the pavement you are less likely to find your head under a car tyre!

But then you run the risk of injuring or even killing a pedestrian, like you say we cant win. Ride the roads and risk getting killed, ride the paths and risk killing someone else..........
