Want to learn how to drive soon and was wondering, would it be a good idea to have 2 lessons a week or just have one a week?

I also know someone who could also show me some driving techniques as well and teach me (for free, not instructor though) and he might possibly let me practice in his van (transit though so quite big) after a few lessons.

One is enough for most, maybe with two in the last week before your test.

If you take two a week, you would pass quicker obviously (well probably), but i would say one a week is a better bet because at some points lessons can actually get quite tedious.

Well, i do 1.5hours a week at £23.00 an hour.

Its sufficient for my needs, as i have picked it up very very quickly over the past 5 lessons without out of lesson practice.

So far ive had 9 lessons and only need another 10 i should think.

one 2hr lesson a week, plus drive with your parents for 30mins - 1hr every day, longer if you can.

1hrs not really worth it.

It also depends on your ability.

If your into cars, an enthusiast, it wont take long until your ready for your test, so 1 hour is sufficient.

I have one lesson a week and its plenty :) but I get private practice as I already own a car...

PS, prolly better in the motors forum, you'll probrably get a better response :)

I would say do 2hrs just less of them..

Also the hard bits not driving, its the confidence and remembering to look in mirrors and other small things like that

Ah, was thinking of having two one hour lessons, one on a saturday and one on the sunday.

Might just have the 2 hour jobbie now though maybe.

Mom doesn't drive and don't live with / talk to my dad so

Guy I work with though has a van I reckon he'd let me drive a little in.

I'd be paying £15 for an hours lesson but maybe a little less than £30 if I were to have 2 hour lessons.

i've been learning for an hour a week and its been fine, 2 would be nice but it gets more expensive.

I'm on about 22 lessons and i've got my test on tuesday, the national average is 45 lessons so it could get expensive depending on ability.

I'm with nationwide on £21 p/h.

Sounds a little low to me, make sure the instructor is fully qualified, a lot of the cheaper ones are still learning themselves and may not know all the tricks to help you pass.

To be honest i don't think it would help practising in a transit, they're so different from a car it might do more damage than help, 2 lessons a week is more than enough.

As they said above, if your really confident like me :P then just do an hour or so.

Well I do tend to understand things quite easily so maybe just the one will do and I could bump up to two once I get near my test?

That would be a good idea. If you have a constant stream of lessons, say one a week, you wont need to bump it upto 2. Just make sure that you regularly drive, as you can quickly become rusty.

Ah, he is fully qualified, he normally charges £17 but for those in the local area £15.

As most said it does depend on your ability, it can vary over the ammount of time it will take to get to your test, its taken me nearlly 8 months to get there, im booking mine when I get paid, instructor finally let me have his ADI number last Thursday

Im thinking of learning soon aswell...I looked at a 30hour Semi-Intensive course that was around £500 ..Not really into cars so i was hoping to do that to 'get it out of the way'

I must have taken 20 lessons before i went for my test, i dont know why but i picked it up really fast with out any previous experience really unless you call going around a school yard on tick over or go karts hehehe.

I think maybe it would have been less lession if my instructor did'nt go from a ford feista to a renault clio as the 2 cars felt very different and i think i prefered the feista to be honest.

I remember first lession i had i was taken to a fairly quiet road around here which is'nt used much any more due to the new roads which have been bulit in the recent 8 or so years and everything went pretty well.

I took 1 hour lessions each week and took 1 2 hour lession to go over a few things which may of been asking during the test.

I would say 2 hours a week maybe best as 1 hour just is'nt enough to get in a good session as with my 1 hours they just flew past.

If you can afford 2 hours a week i would have gone for that if i could have.

good luck :D
