In early March we are heading to York for a week and will be driving up. What nice places are there on the way to stop off to break up the journey? Like somewhere for lunch, or nice places to visit. When we drive to Cornwall we usually stop at Exeter, or some coastal villages or farm shops (I'm a country bumpkin at heart :p).

There is literally within on the A1 worth stopping for. Although Newark is a nice enough town someway near halfway... Nice history to it and plenty of eateries and you can take a nice stroll by the river :)

God, it really takes 4 hours to get from London to York by car?!

Get the train, it takes half the time!

Alternatively, it's only 4 hours, why the need to stop?

Donington Museum off J24 of the M1 would be perfect, surely? Spend a couple of hours there then find a local pub for some lunch or just have a fry up on the cafe. About half way between That London and York too.

We want a car while were up there.

No need to stop, but if there a stuff worth stopping for we may as well.
